R+L Carriers building $11.4 million center

R+L Carriers has obtained a permit to build an $11.4-million, 161,447-square-foot trucking facility at the southwest corner of county roads 18 and 212. It reportedly plans to employ up to 199 at the freight center, just west of Owens Community College. City Planning Commission in 2021 approved R+L Carriers plans for the dock facility, plus a 22,860-square-foot maintenance garage and a fueling station. The project has been granted a 1.57%, 8-year payroll tax credit from the state on the jobs it will create. The estimated value of the tax credit for R+L Carriers is $1.1 million. The jobs would pay an average of $49,748 per year. The grounds would have a parking area for up to 150 tractors and another parking area for up to 97 trailers. The building itself would have docking space for 206 tractors. R+L Carriers is a family-owned freight shipping company headquartered in Wilmington. The company has been looking for a new location in Northwest Ohio for over two years, so Findlay won a competition with other communities in luring the trucking company. R+L Carriers already serves manufacturing and other businesses in the Findlay area.
