Fostoria snags first home win since '19

FOSTORIA — It took a while, but Fostoria finally got to taste victory on its new field. Gavin Miller threw for 346 yards and Jordan Ferguson and Aidan Sprang each ended with more than 100 yard receiving Friday to propel the Redmen past Northern Buckeye Conference foe Woodmore 34-28. It marked the first home win for Fostoria since beating Lake in 2019, and the first win since last year's 8-7 win against Woodmore. This year's triumph came in Fostoria's fifth and final home game. The Redmen close out the season with road games at Eastwood and Lake. Friday's contest was a back-and-forth affair, though the Redmen (1-6, 1-4 NBC) had control early. Miller connected with Machi Johnson for a 75-yard TD and added a 2-yard scoring run to put FHS up 14-0 after the first quarter. The Wildcats (1-7, 0-5) forged a tie by halftime with a pair of second quarter scores, but then momentum shifted. The Redmen blocked a punt for a safety a little more than three minutes into the third quarter, then Miller added a 5-yard TD run and a 21-yard touchdown pass to Aidan Sprang for a 28-14 lead with 4:17 left in the period. Woodmore countered with a touchdown run before the quarter ended to get within 28-21, but Miller found Ferguson for a 91-yard touchdown pass with 8:05 left in the game to put the Redmen up 34-21 and they held on from there. Ferguson ended with seven catches for 137 yards, Sprang had eight receptions for 112 yards and Johnson added three catches for 83 yards. Kiesin Cramer ran nine times for 96 yards for Fostoria. Kayden Hutchins and Brayden Harrison both picked off a pass, and Sprang tallied nine solo tackles, 12 total tackles and three tackles for a loss. ARCADIA 42 VANLUE 14 ARCADIA – Nick Myer ran for 142 yards and a touchdown, and Brycen Lucius ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another as Arcadia knocked off Vanlue, 42-14. Arcadia trailed the Wildcats 14-13 at the half. Adam Emerich threw a pair of touchdown passes, one to Parker Keller, and nother to Lamarion Tucker. Lucius threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Collin Nusser. For Vanlue, Jerome Kloepfer threw a nine-yard TD pass to TJ Rickle. Kloepfer also had a three yard touchdown run in the final seconds of the first half. Defensively for Arcadia – which improved to 3-5 – Lucius had 10 tackles, two for a loss and an interception. Nusser also had an interception for the Redskins.Nate Jones had three tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Ryland Ernest had seven tackles, two for a loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. DEL. JEFFERSON 39 LEIPSIC 14 DELPHOS – Andrew Miller ran for 215 yards and three touchdowns, and Delphos Jefferson led Leipsic 39-14 at the half before beating the Vikings, 39-14. Trent Teman also had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Wildcats, who improved to 4-4, 3-2 in the Northwest Conference. Teman also threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Tanner Voorhees in the third quarter. For Leipsic, quarterback Quin Schroeder completed a 51-yard touchdown pass to Jayce Brecht in the first half, and Hayden Hiegel added a 49-yard touchdown run in the third period. But the Vikings simply didn't have an answer for the Wildcats offense. Hiegel finished with 171 yards rushing for Leipsic. McCOMB 52 CORY-RAWSON 7 RAWSON – Andrew Swisher didn't carry the ball much Friday, but he certainly made an impact when he did. The McComb back ran for 205 yards and three touchdowns on six carries, leading the BVC front-running Panthers to a 52-7 victory. McComb improved to 7-1, 6-0 in the conference. Braxton Althauser had 107 yards rushing on six carries, and added two touchdowns. The Panthers led 49-0 at the break. Blake Wiitenmyer completed 6 of 7 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. That came in the first quarter, when he found Blake Wittenmyer for a 38-yard touchdown. Wittenmyer also threw a touchdown pass, a 36-yarder to Camden Glaser. Cory-Rawson's only points came on a 54-yard touchdown run by Preston Stump. CAREY 54 BUCRUS 0 BUCYRUS — Unbeaten Carey took control in a four-minute span in the first quarter with the help of a pair of long runs Friday en route to whipping Bucyrus 54-0 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference play. The win vaulted the Blue Devils to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the N10, one win away from locking up at least a share of the conference title. Getting to that point took a bit of time Friday. The teams were locked in a scoreless battle until Austin Niederkohr bulled in from the 3 with 4:53 left in the first quarter for the first of his three touchdowns for a 6-0 lead. He broke off a 97-yard TD gallop with 2:36 to go in the period, and Landen Kemerley scored on a 78-yard run with just under a minute left in the quarter. A four-touchdown burst in the second quarter — runs of 2 yards by Nathan Brodman, 40 yards by Conner Norden, 10 yards by Eli Steen and 10 yards by Niederkohr — locked up the win and put the running clock into effect in the second half. Steen tacked on a 48-yard scoring sprint in the third period. U. SANDUSKY 42 B. CENTRAL 13 UPPER SANDUSKY — Upper Sandusky didn't allow an offensive score after the first period and gained some breathing room in the second quarter Friday in a 42-13 Northern 10 Athletic Conference win against Buckeye Central. It was a close game early, with the Rams sandwiching touchdown runs of 3 yards by Levi Lamb and 7 yards by Kaden Holman around Buckeye Central quarterback Derex Dean hitting Tyler Sanderson with a 35-yard scoring strike. That all put Upper Sandusky (4-4, 3-2 N10) up 14-7 after the first period, but the Rams added a 3-yard run by Lamb and Holman's 29-yard toss to Evan Hill in the second period to enter halftime up 28-7. Gavin Frey's 11-yard scamper in the third period pushed the advantage to 35-7. The Bucks (3-5, 0-5) found the end zone again early in the fourth quarter when Alec Phillips returned an interception 14 yards. But Ethan Hill hauled in a 38-yard TD pass from Holman a few minutes later to close out the scoring. Holman ended up throwing for 297 yards, with Evan Hill catching nine passes for 120 yards and Ethan Hill getting seven receptions for 119 yards. Lamb added 165 yards rushing for the Rams. Dean threw for 168 yards for the Bucks, with 10 passes going to Sanderson for 135 yards. Manny Mullins ran for 71 yards. COL. GROVE 38 ADA 12 COLUMBUS GROVE – Columbus Grove raced to a 17-0 lead in the second quarter and rolled to a 38-12 Northwest Conference win over Ada. Shep Halker figured in Columbus Grove's scoring in a number of ways. But Bulldogs' senior caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Landon Best, booted a 28-yard field goal, and was 4-for-4 in PAT kicks. Halker caught four passes for 132 yards and added 28 yards rushing for the Bulldogs (6-2 overall and 4-1 in the NWC. Best got Grove on the board with a 5-yard run 8 minutes into the game, and threw TD passes covering 48 yards to Trenton Barazza and 13 to Halker. Barazza and AJ Schafer added short TD runs for Grove. Levi Green led Ada (2-6, 1-4 NWC), completing 7-of-11 passes for 78 yards and rushing for 118 yards and both Ada touchdowns. Green scored on a 2-yard dive in the final minute of the first half and broke away for an 80-yard room on the final play of the game. H.LOUDON 40 NORTHWOOD 27 BASCOM — Braylon Martinez had a 75-yard pick-6 and a pair of 2-yard touchdown runs, and Evan Kreais threw three touchdown passes Friday as Hopewell-Loudon powered past Northwood 40-27. Martinez's interception return opened the scoring, but the Rangers countered with two of their touchdowns and led 14-6 in second quarter. Then the Chieftains rebounded. Kreais hit Jagger Endicott with a 32-yard TD strike and Martinez notched his first offensive touchdown run to send H-L (6-2) into halftime up 21-14. Wyatt Crow caught a conversion pass from Kreais and Martinez connected on one of his two PAT boots. The Chieftains sandwiched two more touchdowns in the third quarter around Northwood's third score, with Martinez plowing in and Blake Berrier catching a 64-yard scoring pass from Kreais. The Rangers (4-4) got within 27-34 on a fourth quarter touchdown, but the Chieftains pulled away on Kreais' 9-yard TD strike to Berrier. H. NORTHERN 49 CRESTLINE 8 CRESTLINE – Hardin Northern routed Crestline in NWCC football Friday night. The Polar Bears were led by a trio of runners. Carter Curtis finished with 185 yards, Xander Wilson had 141 yards, and Cody Spearman added 111 yards on the ground. They, along with Nolan Hopson and Cooper Thomas, all had rushing touchdowns for the Polar Bears. Hopson completed two of his three passes for a total of 43 yards, throwing a 23-yard touchdown pass to Carter Curtis. Crestline quarterback Trevor Shade completed 5 of his 11 throws, totaling 45 yards. Carter Jones ended with 49 yards on four carries, as well as three receptions for 40 yards. The Bulldogs' Jake Bruce finished with 46 yards and 17 rushing attempts, and Carter Giesige added three receptions for 25 yards. SHAWNEE 21 O-G 7 LIMA – Lima Shawnee defeated Ottawa-Glandorf Titans in a WBL matchup, 21-7. Shawnee moved to 2-6, while O-G stands at 1-7. Shawnee was led by the quarterback/receiver combo Payton Kuhlman and Carter Duling. Kuhlman finished with 195 passing yards, completing 5 of 14 passes. Duling had just two receptions, but 105 yards, and the two connected on a touchdown as well. Walter Ross had two receptions for 66 yards, and Cy Rump added 15 rushing and 35 receiving yards. For the Titans, quarterback Chase Beery ended up with 80 yards, 21 carries and two touchdowns on the ground, as well as 59 yards passing, going 6 of 12. Jordan Banks finished with 12 carries for 71 yards, along with three receptions for a total of 27 yards.
