Findlay girls sixth at district golf

BOWLING GREEN – Perrysburg's Sydney Deal and Toledo St. Ursula's team were head and shoulders above the rest on Tuesday in the Division I girls district golf tournament played at Bowling Green's Stone Ridge Golf Club. St. Ursula had four players shoot 86 or better, posted a 339 team score and beat second-place Lexington (351) by 12 strokes. The top two teams in the district meet qualified for the Division I state tournament Oct. 21-22 on the Gray Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club. The top two individual scores from non-advancing teams also qualified for state and Deal easily wrapped up one of those spots by firing a 5-under-par 67. Ontario's Brooklyn Adkins also advanced with an 83. Findlay High posted a 372 team score and placed sixth among the 10 teams in the district meet. Freshman Natalie Gutman had one of her best rounds of the season, an 87, to lead Findlay. Seniors Casey Tate, Libby Holman and Alexis Leslie carded scores of 92, 98 and 99 respectively. BOYS SOCCER FINDLAY 19 LIMA SENIOR 0 It was Senior Night at Elmer Graham Stadium on Tuesday. And Findlay High junior Lewis Warner had a game for the ages. Warner scored a school record seven goals, Findlay scored virtually at will all night and the Trojans crushed Lima Senior 19-0 in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference boys soccer match. Warner's seven goals bettered by one the record previously shared by Grant Birchmeier and Mark Sleasman. Arda Dastan and Joe Gerardi had two goals each, with Dastan handing out five assists as well. Eleven players scored goals for the Trojans, who led 7-0 at the half. Owen Clevenger led Findlay defensively with 14 intercepts and six steals. Jadyn Barney had six intercepts and seven steals, Graham Sprague five intercepts and three steals and Dastan, Seth Franks and Chris Huff four intercepts and five steals each. The win completed regular season play for Findlay, 5-7-4 overall and second in the TRAC standings at 5-1-1. Seeded No. 9 for the Division I OHSAA tournament, Findlay will host Mansfield Madison on Oct. 22 in a sectional final matchup at Elmer Graham Stadium. L-BENTON 2 O-GLANDORF 0 GLANDORF – Garrett Nealis converted a penalty kick and Liam Fagan added a second goal in Liberty-Benton's 2-0 boys soccer win over Ottawa-Glandorf. Ben Jenkins made four saves in goal for Liberty-Benton, which extended its unbeaten streak to 10 matches (7-0-3) while climbing to 10-3-3 overall. The Eagles host Miller City in their regular-season finale on Thursday, then will face either No. 6-seeded Riverdale or 10th-seeded Old Fort in a sectional tournament game on Oct. 22. Dave Westrick made nine saves for O-G (8-6-2). GIRLS SOCCER O-GLANDORF 6 KENTON 0 KENTON – Bri Douglass and Myka Aldrich scored two goals each and Ottawa-Glandorf completed a 9-0-0 run through the Western Buckeye League girls soccer ranks with a 6-0 win over Kenton. Clara Beach had a goal and an assist, Douglass and Karsyn Erford both had two assists and Makenna Siefker scored as well for O-G, 14-1-2 and ranked No. 4 in the Division III state poll. State runner-up last season, O-G was seeded No. 1 among teams in the Ottoville Sectional/District field and will open tournament play Oct. 20 against either Delphos St. John's or Convoy Crestview. RIVERDALE 2 MANS. CHRISTIAN 1 MANSFIELD – Riverdale got first half goals from Maddie Biltoft and Eden Morris and held on to beat Mansfield Christian 2-1 on Tuesday. Angelina Sierra made eight saves for the Falcons, who will enter tournament play next week with an 8-5-2 record. BLUFFTON 5 CORY-RAWSON 0 BLUFFTON – Cory-Rawson and Bluffton battled through 52 minutes of scoreless soccer on Tuesday. Then the flood gates opened, at least for the Pirates. Bluffton scored all of its goals in the final 28 minutes in earning a 5-0 girls soccer win over Cory-Rawson. Marley Kindle and Sami Scoles had a goal and an assist each. Karson Hauenstein, Riley Eachus and Blair Utendorf had the other goals for Bluffton (13-2-0) which wraps up its regular season schedule Thursday at Upper Sandusky. Cory-Rawson goalie Madison Boehm made 11 saves for the Hornets (4-11-1). UF SPORTS WOMEN'S GOLF DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of Findlay women's golf team carded its best score of the tournament on Tuesday, a 285, and finished second with an 876 team total in the LeeAnn Noble Memorial tournament. Jill Schmitmeyer had rounds of 73, 71 and 73 to lead UF and place fourth in the medalist standings with a 217 total. Gabby Woods shot a 220 for the tournament and Danbi Kim and May Kelly Mulcahy posted 225s.
