Letters to the editor: Nov. 4

Not sold on Kennedy I have now read two letters urging us to vote for Sharon Kennedy as Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court. It is a comment in the last letter with which I take issue. Recent history has shown that Kennedy is not an impartial defender of the Ohio Constitution. To clarify, amendments are considered part of the Constitution. The Ohio Redistricting Commission was formed as a result of an amendment to the Constitution approved by 70% of Ohio voters. When the obviously gerrymandered maps were presented, the court said they did not meet constitutional requirements. Kennedy dissented, saying the court had no business striking down the partisan work of the commission. Really, the Ohio Supreme Court has no business enforcing the Constitution? If so, why have a Supreme Court at all? No, I am afraid Sharon Kennedy is just another partisan hack that is part of a trend invading our justice system. If you want someone who will always rule in the interests of one political party and ignore the Constitution and the will of the voters, then Kennedy is your woman. Bruce Workman Findlay Abortion rights discussion wrongheaded As an indication of how much our nation has deteriorated, we don't have to look any further than how the promotion and rejection for abortion rights is being discussed. I have not heard or read about anybody among Democrats or Republicans mentioning God's authority and responsibility to determine when a person's life is to end. It is proven and well-established that a baby is alive in the womb. It is also clearly declared in the Bible that God is our creator, life sustainer and eternal life provider for born-again Christians. God is in charge when difficult pregnancies for the mother and baby occur and is the source for both hope and comfort. And He certainly cares about babies that are the result of unwanted pregnancies. Therefore, everyone who believes these things should have no problem or confusion about how to cast their votes in the Nov. 8 election. As wrong, ungodly, immoral practices continue to be established in our country, the wisdom and concern to make other right decisions for the people and well-being of America will continue to be in jeopardy.
