A look at tonight's postseason matchups

OHSAA PLAYOFFS DIVISION V WHO: Liberty-Benton (8-3) vs. Liberty Center (11-0) WHAT: Division V, Region 18 quarterfinals. WHERE: Rex Lingruen Stadium PLAYOFF TRAIL: Liberty-Benton outgunned Archbold 63-35 in its playoff opener; Liberty Center also won a high-scoring affair, beating Port Clinton 61-20. BREAKDOWN: Liberty-Benton's high-octane passing game against Liberty Center's stingy defense. Triggered by senior quarterback Kam Garlock, Liberty-Benton has averaged 241.1 yards and 2.6 passing touchdowns per game. Extremely accurate, Garlock completed 72 percent of his passes (170-of-236) during the regular season, for a 184.9 efficiency average according to NCAA stats and a 122.0 quarterback rating by NFL standards. Garlock has also rushed for 389 yards and nine TDs …. Garlock's favorite targets have been his twin brother Lincoln (57 receptions, 839 yards, 8 TDs), 6-foot-3 freshman Seth Elchert (40, 669, 9 TDs) and Cason Doolittle (28, 366, 3 TDs) … Stout defense has traditionally been a trait of Liberty Center teams and this year's squad is following that trend. Led by Northwest Ohio Athletic League Defensive Player of the Year Owen Box (6-3, 265, sr., 10 sacks) the Tigers have shut out four opponents and limited four others to a single touchdown … Archbold, the team L-B vanquished in the opening round, gave Liberty-Center one of its toughest battles this season, falling 16-0. A 9-0 win over Otsego was the only other game the Tigers did not win by at least two touchdowns. WHAT'S NEXT: Friday's winner will face either Coldwater (10-1) or Huron (9-2) at a neutral site in next week's Region 18 semifinals. WHO: Tinora (8-3) vs. Elmwood (10-1) WHAT: Division V, Region 18 quarterfinals. WHERE: Royal Stadium in Bloomdale PLAYOFF TRAIL: Elmwood doubled up on Delta, 49-24, in its playoff opener; Tinora topped Highland 37-7. BREAKDOWN: It will be a matchup of league runners-up. Elmwood was second to Eastwood in the Northern Buckeye Conference; Tinora shared second place in the Green meadows Conference with Ayersville behind unbeaten Antwerp ... For the second straight season, Elmwood went 9-1 behind an explosive offense that averaged 42.7 points a game. Headlining that arsenal are senior running back Mason Oliver (1,610 yards, 19 TDs), quarterback Hayden Wickard (2,452 yards passing, 26 TDs) and receivers Mason Mossbarger (35 receptions, 782 yards, 11 TDs), Micah Oliver (37, 452, 9 TDs) and Alex Arnold (25, 565) … Running back Brandon Edwards (805 yards, 8 TDs) leads Tinora on the offensive side of the ball, while down lineman Dallas Dachenhaus, linebacker Grady Gustwiler and safety Brayden Roesti head up the Rams' defense. WHAT'S NEXT: Friday's winner will face either Eastwood (11-0) or Oak Harbor (10-1) at a neutral site in next week's Region 18 semifinals. DIVISION VI WHO: Colonel Crawford (9-2) at Carey (11-0) WHAT: Division VI, Region 22 quarterfinals WHERE: Memorial Stadium in Carey PLAYOFF TRAIL: Carey thumped Riverdale 49-6 in its playoff opener; Colonel Crawford beat Margaretta 49-14. BREAKDOWN: After losing 7-3 to Carey in a Northern 10 Conference matchup on Sept 23, many Colonel Crawford players, coaches and fans thought it might be next season before they would get a chance for a rematch. Turns out it was just six weeks … Despite being the top two offensive teams in the N10 – Carey averaged 39.5 points a game, Colonel Crawford 40.9 – the regular-season battle between the state-ranked teams was dominated by defense start to finish. Colonel Crawford got on the board with a field goal late in the first half. But Carey quarterback Lance Rickle rallied the Blue Devils, connecting with Austin Niederkohr for a 36-yard TD pass in the third quarter. Carey's defense did the rest. WHAT'S NEXT: Friday's winner will face either Columbus Grove (9-2) or West Salem Northwestern (9-2) at a neutral site in next week's Region 22 semifinals. DIVISION VII WHO: Pandora-Gilboa (8-3) at McComb (10-1) WHAT: Division VII, Region 26 quarterfinals. WHERE: Doc Miller field in McComb PLAYOFF TRAIL: McComb crushed Edon 57-3 in last Friday's playoff opener; Pandora-Gilboa ousted Upper Scioto Valley 42-8. BREAKDOWN: The playoffs offer another regular-season rematch, this time in Region 26, when Pandora-Gilboa travels to McComb on Friday. In a Sept. 16 game at Pandora, McComb trailed 28-21 but scored the last 14 points – the final touchdown coming on Braxton Althauser's 7-yard run in the final minute – to pull out a 35-28 win. The victory was pivotal in the Panthers 7-0 run to a Blanchard Valley Conference championship …. Both teams feature some dynamic players. Andrew Swisher, who took over at quarterback on McComb's game-winning drive when starter Grant Dishong was injured in the earlier game, was named the BVC Offensive and Defensive Player of the year. Swisher (1,233 yards, 18 TDs) and Althauser (681 yards, 15 TDs) spearhead McComb's attack. P-G has a potent arsenal as well in running back Ethan Luginbill, who led the BVC in rushing (1,527 yards) and scoring (29 TDs), and receivers Aidan Morris (55 receptions, 910 yards, 12 TDs) and Collin Harris (45, 653, 7 TDs).
