Community Foundation surpasses $75M in awards

The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation has surpassed $75 million awarded in its history. The milestone comes during the foundation's 30th anniversary year and serves as a reminder about the power of philanthropy, partnership and community. "I cannot overstate how deeply grateful I am to the donors, volunteers and staff, past and present, for making this milestone and the impact of these dollars possible," said Brian Treece, president and CEO. "Every dollar represents an investment made in our community. Each has helped us improve the quality of life for all in Hancock County." The $75 million was distributed in the form of more than 11,000 grant and scholarship awards. The Community Foundation awards grants through different processes, depending on the type of fund. Grants from our Community's Endowment, comprised of common good and field of interest funds, are awarded through the responsive grants process. Donor Directed Funds include designated, agency, scholarship and donor advised funds, each with its own respective process. "This milestone is an example of decades of relationships with donors, advisors, community organizations and beyond," said Ginger Jones, chair of the foundation's board of trustees. "I am grateful for our first donor, Dale Dorney, the thousands who followed in his footsteps, and the leaders of our past for laying the groundwork. Now we are looking to the future and paving the way for the next grantmaking milestone." Donors establish endowment funds at the Community Foundation to benefit causes or organizations they are passionate about. The foundation manages the funds and awards grants based on donor intent after the grants are approved by the board. Scholarships are awarded directly to the institution based on fund criteria and are also approved by the board. "We are so proud of this milestone and what it means for our friends, family and neighbors in Hancock County," said Treece. "Seventy-five million dollars is significant and there is a story behind every dollar. Each represents a family with safe housing, a child receiving a full meal, a student earning a higher education, a ticket to an artistic performance, and so much more.
