O-G boys fall in final seconds

AKRON -- Lutheran West hurried the ball up court and the Longhorns' Jayson Levis buried a 3-pointer as the final seconds ticked off the clock in a 65-62 win over Ottawa-Glandorf Saturday at the Northern Ohio East vs. West Invitational held at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.Levis led Lutheran West with 22 points. The loss was the first in four games for O-G (3-1). VANLUE 78 DANBURY 58 LAKESIDE – With two starters and Vanlue's sixth man sidelined by injuries, Jerome Klopefer has been called on to shoulder more of the load for the Wildcats. Against Danbury on Saturday, the 6-foot-3 senior did just that. Kloepfer achieved a rare triple-double, scoring 39 points, grabbing 17 rebounds and coming up with 10 steals in the Wildcats' 78-58 loss to the Lakers. The 6-foot-3 senior, averaging 34.2 points a game, also reached a career milestone by scoring his 1000th point. Vanlue (2-3) was hampered by 35 turnovers, though in falling behind 25-11 in the first quarter and 43-19 by the half. Danbury got a huge game as well from Tyler Harris, a 6-4 sophomore who poured in 32 points. Blake Barker added 22 points for the Lakers (3-3). Carson Sopher scored 14 points to lead a balanced Bluffton attack. Wade Ginther had 12 points and Landen Worcester and Marek Donaldson added 11 each for the Pirates, who led 16-4 after one period of play and 38-10 at the half in notching their second straight win after an 0-3 start. Landen Callahan led all scorers with 22 points for LTC. The Hornets kept the game close in the first half, but were outscored 16-9 in the third quarter. Eric Davis led C-R with 10 points, while Mike Bixler added nine. Cory-Rawson, which is leaving the Blanchard Valley Conference and joining Lima Temple Christian in the Northwest Central Conference next school year, lost its second straight and fell to 3-3. LTC is 2-3. CAREY 59 WYNFORD 47 BUCYRUS – In a see-saw game, Carey put it together when it mattered most in posting a 55-47 Northern 10 Conference win over Wynford. Carey outscored Wynford 17-11 in the first quarter, was outscored 20-11 in the third, then surged for a 23-9 advantage in the final period to finally put it away. Brayden Young led a balanced Carey offense with 16 points. Alex Putnam and Austin Niederkohr added 13 each in helping the Blue Devils, 3-0 overall, improve to 2-0 in N10 play. Wynford (3-2, 1-1 N10) was also balanced, with Wes Prenger and Cainen Allen scoring 10 points each, Grant McGuire nine and Drew Johnson eight. A fast start and a strong finish made the difference, though, in Kenton's 72-50 win over the Falcons. Riverdale's Evan Reiter scored 13 points, Mitchell O'Flaherty 12 and Ethan Elwood nine. The Falcons fell behind 25-10 in the first quarter and was out-tscored 14-7 in the fourth in falling to 1-6.
