FHS girls rally but fall short against Perrysburg

PERRYSBURG 58 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;50 PERRYSBURG – Perrysburg used a fast start to offset Findlay's strong finish on Wednesday when the Yellow Jackets edged the Trojans 58-50 in nonleague girls basketball action. Perrysburg raced to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter, led 35-20 at the half and held on as Findlay outscored the Yellow Jackets 30-23 over the final two periods. Hayley Griggs knocked down five 3-pointers and led Perrysburg (8-3) with 18 points. Megan Gibbs added 11 points and Chloe Kilbride nine. Findlay displayed good offensive balance with Katelyn Stechschulte and Madilyn Stechschulte scoring 13 points each and Aleksyss Arredondo netting 11. Madelyn Stechschulte filled out her stats line with six rebounds and three assists. Katelyn Stechschulte had four rebounds and four steals and Arredondo pulled down five rebounds for the Trojans (6-5), who had won five of their previous six games heading into Wednesday's Findlay is back in action on Monday when the Trojans host Toledo Notre Dame in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference game. Zoe Fruth added 11 points and six rebounds in helping Van Buren climb to 7-5 on the season. The Black Knights trailed 15-14 at the half in a back and forth battle, but outscored Allen East 11-9 in both the third and fourth quarters.
