Man gets prison time for aggravated vehicular assault

A suspected heroin defendant has been sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated vehicular assault.Brandon S. Hanson, 31, formerly of 113 Keefer St., Willard, was convicted of a second-degree felony related to driving under suspension. In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed one count each of operating a vehicle under the influence and possession of heroin.In addition to Hanson's prison sentence, which was issued Tuesday in Huron County Common Pleas Court, Judge Jim Conway imposed a five-year driver's license suspension and ordered him to pay $11,598 in restitution.All the charges relate to an Oct. 30 incident. Hanson was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Trailblazer at the time, according to his indictment.Hanson went to prison for an earlier local, weapons-related conviction. In May 2015, Conway sentenced him to one year for receiving stolen property.The Willard Police Department investigation began July 25, 2014 when a burglary victim reported the theft of several firearms. Agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation processed the crime scene.Hanson and Willard resident Forrest J. Osborne Jr. sold the stolen guns to an undercover police officer. In April 2015, a jury — after about 75 minutes of deliberations — convicted Osborne of one count each of theft of a firearm and possession of weapons while under disability plus two charges of receiving stolen property. He received a five-year prison term.In a separate case, Benjamin S. Miller, 31, of Sandusky, pleaded guilty Thursday to assault in exchange for the dismissal of harassment with a bodily substance. The judge sentenced him to 36 months in prison for the assault, a fifth-degree felony, and burglary, a third-degree felony. Miller also received a 30-month term for a post-release control violation.In January, prosecutors dismissed one count each of aggravated burglary, attempted rape and attempted sexual battery as part of a plea deal for the burglary conviction. He has been in jail since Sept. 18.In other hearings:• Kimberly M. Bramhill, 42, whose address was unavailable, was fined $500 Thursday for two counts each of theft of drugs and illegal processing of drug documents. During her three years of probation, she has a 90-day discretionary jail sentence hanging over head; her probation officer can impose part or all of the time without a hearing. • Anthony R. Cooper, 26, of New Washington, pleaded guilty Tuesday to tampering with evidence in exchange for the dismissal of aggravated possession of drugs. He then was ordered to spend four to six months in a community-based corrections facility (CBCF), a form of prison which focuses on substance abuse treatment and education. Cooper, also as part of his three years of probation, was fined $250 and must pay an $80 reimbursement to Willard police for lab testing.• Devon L. Payton, 27, most recently of 26 Spring St., Apt. C-8, pleaded guilty Tuesday to tampering with evidence in exchange for the dismissal of trafficking in drugs. During his three years of probation, the defendant must pay a $250 fine and faces a 90-day discretionary jail sentence.• Rodrigo V. Ramos, 20, most recently of 103 Jefferson St., Lot 59, was ordered Thursday to spend four to six months in a CBCF for assault on a police officer. Also as part of his three years of probation, he must pay a $250 fine and $100 in restitution. • Anthony D. Reed, 28, most recently of 2076 Hartland Center Road, Collins, pleaded guilty Tuesday to burglary. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed one count each of safecracking and theft from a person in a protected class. Reed, who earlier posted a $20,000 bond, will be sentenced April 3.• Elizabeth Tennant, 22, most recently of 138 E. Main St., Apt. A, pleaded guilty Thursday to trafficking in drugs in exchange for the dismissal of a similar fourth-degree felony. She then was fined $5,000 and ordered to reimburse the Norwalk Police Department $125 for lab testing. Tennant also has a 90-day discretionary jail sentence hanging over her head during her three years of probation.• Ronnie L. Whitaker, 63, most recently of 5 W. Washington St., Apt. B, was fined $500 Thursday for two counts of trafficking in drugs.
