Bath knocks out L-B, Irwin steps down as Eagles coach

LIMA BATH 38 L-B 30 PAULDING – Lima Bath ended Liberty-Benton's season, knocking off the Eagles in the Division II district final in Paulding, 38-30. Also ending is the tenure of L-B head coach Nate Irwin, who announced after the game, via Twitter, that he is stepping down. For the Wildcats, senior Elena Oliver finished with a game-high 18 points. Claire Foust scored 10 points, while Anne Oliver added six. Senior Riley Irwin led L-B with 10 points. Penn State volleyball commit Karis Willow ended with nine points, and showed her defensive prowess with a whopping eight blocks and three steals. BVC Player of the Year Lauren Gerken finished with eight points. On Twitter, coach Irwin wrote that "it's been a great 19 years. Stepping aside and looking forward to the next stage of life."It seems like it just started yesterday. Time surely does fly when you're having fun. Truly grateful!" L-B finished this season 21-3. In his career, coach Irwin compiled a record of 382-82. Bath, now 20-4, will advance to play Bryan (5-17), tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Paulding. O-G 64 FAIRVIEW 49 ELIDA – Ottawa-Glandorf used a 17-8 second quarter to generate momentum that led to a 64-49 district semifinal victory over Fairview. Chloee Glenn led the Titans with 19 points, six rebounds and three steals. Karsyn Erford ended with 12 points. Carlie Brinkan had 10 points and six rebounds. Kaitlyn Kimmet had nine points, while Katie Kaufman added eight. The Titans now stand at 21-3, and advance to play Delphos Jefferson tomorrow in a district final. GROVE 55 LEIPSIC 51 OTTAWA – Columbus Grove defeated No. 1 seeded Leipsic Thursday in a district semifinal matchup, winning 55-51. Leipsic was up 9-6 after the first quarter, before turning it up in the second. Leipsic jumped out to a 23-8 lead at the break. Columbus Grove came out firing on all cylinders in the third quarter. The Bulldogs outscored the Vikings 24-8 in the third period. The Bulldogs would hold onto that lead to secure a victory by four points. Leipsic finished its season with a strong record of 21 wins, 3 losses. Columbus Grove moves to 16-8 with the win, and will play Kalida in the district final S from Ottawa. KALIDA 64 C-RAWSON 35 OTTAWA – After a fairly even first quarter, Kalida sprang to life in the second quarter, and carried that momentum to a 64-35 win over Cory-Rawson Thursday. After being up 44-24 after three, Kalida scored 20 points in the fourth to put the Hornets away and advance to the district final. Brooke Erhart made two threes on her way to a game-high 14 points for Kalida. Erhart also tallied seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Camille Hovest ended with 11 points, and Malia Romes had 10. Morgan McVetta led the Hornets with 13 points. Cory-Rawson ends their season with a mark of 16-8, securing third in the BVC behind All-BVC first-team senior Paige McVetta. WOMEN'S BASKETBALLTIFFIN 73 FINDLAY 65 TIFFIN – Tiffin defeated the University of Findlay 75-65 in women's G-MAC play Thursday evening. Both teams made the same amount of shots, but eight more made free throws for the Dragons propelled them to a win. The Dragons were led by the duo of Jada Tate and Savanah Richards. Tate finished with 18 points on the evening. Richards ended up with 17 points, to go along with eight boards and three steals. Jae'onna Sutton had 12 points, and Kirsten Williams added 10. Findlay sharpshooter Lauren Hapgood led the way with 14 points, securing four rebounds and netting three from beyond the arc. Kate Ellis added 13 points, while Chloe Callahan had 10. With this loss, the Oilers fall below .500 in G-MAC play, and their chances to make the G-MAC tournament have all but fizzled out.
