Trooper project nets 600 traffic violations

A six-state trooper project, focused on speed, safety belt and OVI enforcement on Interstate 75, netted over 600 traffic violations in Ohio last weekend. State troopers from Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan patrolled I-75 from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17 until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19. Collectively, the agencies cited 955 drivers, amounting to 873 speed violations, 68 seat belt violations and 14 OVIs. The Ohio State Highway Patrol issued 618 citations for speed, 52 citations for seat belt violations and 12 citations for OVIs. In District 1, which includes Hancock, Hardin, Putnam, Allen and Wood Counties, 262 speed citations, 27 seat belt citations were issued and one OVI arrest was made. In Hancock County, five seat belt violations and 45 speed violations citations were issued. The 6-State Trooper Project is a multi-state law enforcement partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing, according to a release from Ohio State Highway Patrol. The state police agencies in Indiana, Pennsylvania and West Virginia did not participate in this effort, as the initiative only included I-75.
