Veteran begs to differ

I would like to comment on an article in the Courier newspaper dated 23 February, 2023, on the Hancock County Leadership Project proposal. Obviously, Mr. Hayslett has never attended a Hancock County veteran's funeral. In the article, he stated that, "There is no system in place to really help veterans request a live bugler. There's a big need for it." I am a veteran who is on the Hancock County Memorial Squad and I beg to differ with him. There are numerous buglers on the squad who play the pre-recorded version of "Taps" and the song is played perfectly each and every time, for the respect of the soldier's family. There is no fumbling around, breathing problems or honest mistakes you get with a live bugler. Members of the squad have commented to me, and I agree, that there was no input discussion with the squad. We feel that we were slighted in this decision, because we are the ones who actually work for the ceremony, so that it is dignified for our fallen soldiers. We are veterans honoring fellow veterans.
