Get involved in Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Blanchard Valley Center is hosting a variety of events in March to celebrate the 37th annual National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The highlight of the month's celebration is the annual Celebrity Basketball Game on March 28. The game between Hancock County celebrities and the Hancock County Special Olympics basketball team will take place at Findlay High School. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a 7 p.m. tipoff. Performance Dogs of Ohio will entertain the crowd with athletic tricks during a halftime show. Additional activities during National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month include: March 2: Hancock County Commissioners will issue a proclamation at 9:30 a.m. at the county building. March 7: City of Findlay will issue a proclamation at 6 p.m. at city hall. March 13-17: Spirit Week in Hancock County; It's wear "Red, White and Blue Monday;" "Wear Pajamas Tuesday," "Wear a Positive Message Wednesday;" "Support Special Olympics Thursday;" and "St. Patrick's Day Green Friday." March 29: Accessibility webinar, 1 p.m. at BVC. Center is partnering with four other county boards of developmental disabilities for the event. More than 25 Hancock County school classes have scheduled individuals receiving support from BVC as guest readers. BVC has provided several Hancock County coffee shops with cup sleeves that feature its logo and promote inclusion. Pop-up popcorn stands are also to appear at local businesses and organizations.
