Virtual author talk, origami planned at library

A virtual author talk and a program for teens on learning to fold origami will be some of the events offered by the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library starting Monday. Those individuals who registered for March's Spice World program may begin picking up the hermit cookie kits at 9 a.m. Monday. Hermit cookies are usually made with cinnamon, cardamom and cloves mixed with raisins, nuts and currants. The kits will be available though March 25 in the area where the holds for library materials are kept. The Monday Afternoon book discussion group will meet via Zoom at 1 p.m. Monday. Members will discuss the CommunityREAD title, "The Invisible Husband of Frick Island," by Colleen Oakley. Register at findlaylibrary.org for the link to join the discussion. Mini Meet-up will take place at 5 p.m. Monday and again at 10 a.m. Wednesday and Friday in the children's programming room in the children's department. This is an opportunity for youngsters to socialize and explore new games, toys and activities that are educational and fun while meeting other families. This program is for infants to 36 months with their caregivers. Older siblings are also welcome. Miss Nicole will present storytime sessions at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday in the Lindamood Room. Participants will sing, rhyme, read and hear about springtime rain. Individuals who have registered at libraryc.org/findlaylibrary will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual discussion and question and answer session with Chef Jernard A. Wells. He will discusses his new book, "Southern Inspired: More Than 100 Delicious Dishes from My American Table to Yours." The book features 100 recipes using flavors from the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia and Europe with Wells' signature Southern flair. The program is presented in partnership with Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. Japanese students from the University of Findlay will teach teens how to hold origami at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Lindamood Room. The program is for students in grades 6-12. Baby Storytime at the Library will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday in the Lindamood Room. Miss Nicole will lead families in singing, rhyming, reading and having fun with scarves and bells. Storytime at Arlington takes place at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Arlington branch library. Children can enjoy reading fun, songs, crafts and socialization with other children. The theme this week is feelings. At 5 p.m. Thursday, the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership will present "Native Plants of Ohio." Attendees will learn about native plants of Ohio, and how to incorporate them into their own yard as well as conservation/restoration projects. The program will be held in the Lindamood Room. The Masters Gardeners of Hancock County will visit the library at 10 a.m. Saturday to help attendees get a jump start on this season's gardening. Participants will learn some creative, low maintenance ways to get gardens and landscapes ready for this season along with tips for planning, pruning, planting, mulching and adding more beauty with shrubs, flowers and vegetables. The program will be held in the administration office. Ellen Kennedy, education and visitor experience director for the National Museum of the Great Lakes, will speak about the Great Lakes connections to the historic Titanic at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lindamood Room.
