Fostoria fire displaces family

FOSTORIA - The American Red Cross of North Central Ohio provided assistance to a family after their home suffered damage from a fire. The Fostoria Fire Division responded to a house fire in the 200 block of E. Center St. around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. According to a press release from the division, an active fire was coming from the second floor of the residence and extended into the attic space. Fostoria fire Chief Jason Root said the responding crews had water on the fire within six minutes and was declared under control within 18 minutes. Root also said there were no injuries. A bird was removed from the structure and returned to the family. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and further investigation will be conducted. Off-duty personnel, the Tiffin Fire Department and Bascom EMS assisted with containment and clean-up. The Findlay office of the Red Cross provided the family with temporary lodging, food and clothing for the family, which consists of three adults and two children, according to a release from the chapter. Volunteers will continue to help those affected, provide recovery assistance, resources and referrals to community partners. A GoFundMe for the individual family has not been set up but the North Central Ohio chapter's executive director Todd James said people can donate to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help theirs and other families.
