Fostoria mayor candidate Mennel wins primary

FOSTORIA — Republican candidate for Fostoria mayor Don Mennel won Tuesday's primary election, receiving 268 votes from voters in Seneca County, totaling 68%. Candidate Elliott Shaffer received 126 votes, totaling 39%. Both candidates will move on to the November General Election, where one will be elected Fostoria's new mayor. In Hancock County, Mennel received 142 votes, 68.27%, and Shaffer received 66 votes, 31.73%. In Wood County, Mennel received 39 votes, 66.10%; and Shaffer received 20 votes, 33.90%. In total, Mennel received 449 votes and Shaffer received 212 votes. As for the at-large position on Fostoria City Council, in Seneca County, Greg Cassidy received 230 votes, 23.91%; Braden Hall received 228 votes; 23.7%; Bob Podach received 239 votes, 24.84%; and Kirstin VanCuren Koester received 265 votes, 27.55%. In Hancock County, Cassidy received 129 votes, 23.67%; Hall received 122 votes, 22.39%; Podach received 135 votes, 26.09%; and VanCuren Koester received 159 votes, 29.17%. In Wood County, Cassidy received 30 votes, 18.99%; Hall received 41 votes, 25.95%; Podach received 45 votes 28.48%; and VanCuren Koester received 42 votes, 26.58%. In total, Cassidy received 389 votes; Hall received 391; Podach received 419; Van Curen Koester received 466. Since the results were close, all at-large candidates will move to the November General Election, with three being elected.
