L-B pitchers three-hit Thunderbirds

REGULAR SEASON L-BENTON 6 LIMA C.C 2 LIMA – Liberty-Benton's Landon Stansbery and Lincoln Garlock combined on a three-hitter in pitching No. 7-ranked Liberty-Benton to a 6-2 nonleague baseball win over Lima Central Catholic. Stansbery went 4-2/3 inning, allowing both runs on three hits and striking out eight in upping his record to 5-0. Garlock struck out three and didn't allow a hit in 2-1/3 innings of relief. Brady Birkemeier singled, doubled and drove in two runs for L-B, which scored four runs in the top of the third inning and never looked back in improving to 21-6 on the season. A.J. CALVERT 8 VAN BUREN 2 VAN BUREN – Tiffin Calvert's AJ Shoemaker (2B) and Mason Johnson (1B, 2B) drove in three runs each in powering the state-ranked Senecas to an 8-2 win over Van Buren. Calvert, ranked No. 5 among Ohio's Division IV schools, put seven runs on the board in the first two innings and rolled to its 22nd win in 23 games. Van Buren, which got an RBI single from Peter Harrington, dropped to 13-12 heading into Wednesday's Division III sectional tournament game at Riverdale. Landon Kennard and Nic Eyster combined on a three-hitter with Eyster driving in a pair of runs as well as Shelby beat Upper Sandusky for the second time this season, 6-3. Now 22-3 overall, two of Upper Sandusky's three losses have been to the Whippets (16-6). Back on April 27, the Rams were 17-1 and riding a 12-game winning streak when Shelby knocked them off, 7-6. Blaise Gallant had a double and drove in two runs for Upper, which led 3-0 before Shelby (16-6) answered with three-run rallies in the fifth and sixth innings. U. A sophomore left-hander Jones struck out eight, walked four and allowed just one unearned run. H-LOUDON 13 DANBURY 2 MARBLEHEAD – Danbury struck first, but Hopewell-Loudon responded in a big way, scoring three runs in the third, seven runs in the fifth and another three runs in the seventh to rout SBC River Division foe Danbury, 13-4. Matt Wyman singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Chieftains, while Ethan Carrel placed three singled while scoring once and driving in two runs. Cohen Sendelbach singled twice, scored three times and drove in a run for H-L, while Thomas Daniel singled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Wyatt Crow picked up the win for the Chieftains with 5 1/3 innings of two-hit pitching. He stuck out eight, walked one and allowed one unearned run. For the Lakers, four players had a single. Park Wilhite had a base hit and scored a run for Danbury. Trenton Rigdon took the loss on the mound, throwing five innings and allowing 10 runs, eight earned on 10 hits. He walked five.
