Leipsic doubles up Holgate in tournament opener

BASEBALL LEIPSIC 6 HOLGATE 3 LEIPSIC– Leipsic's four runs in the fourth inning helped it to a 6-3 victory over Holgate in a Division IV tournament opener. Quin Schroeder led the Vikings, hitting a double, a single, and driving in two runs. Adam Lammers had an RBI-single, while Trent Siefker had a double and a single. Luke Spoors picked up the victory on the mound for the Vikings, striking out eight batters and allowing just five hits through six innings. Dylan Boecker hit a double as Holgate's top hitter, and Micah Bok had an RBI. The Vikings advance to play Patrick Henry on Thursday on the road. The Rams allowed just one hit through five innings, and struck out 12 batters between two pitchers. Maddox Underwood got the win on the mound with seven strikeouts through three innings, while Tommy Carl struck out five through two innings. Alex Sanders was USV's top hitter, with two doubles, a single, and three RBIs. Underwood also hit a double, two singles, and had an RBI, while Weston Decker singled and drove in three runs. The Rockets drove in four in the first inning, then three in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Rockets followed that up with a monstrous nine-run sixth inning to run away with a win. Colin Harris led the Rockets with a triple, a single, and four RBIs. Isaac Stall tripled as well, and had four singles and two RBIs. Jake Maag finished with two singles and three RBIs. Camden Teman had three singles and drove in a run, while also striking out 12 and allowing just three hits on the mound.
