Findlay gets crafty

The long-awaited Michaels craft store had a grand opening Saturday with food trucks, a bounce house and good deals. With a line starting at least an hour before the store opened, customers waited in lawn chairs for the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new store in the Findlay Village Mall, 1800 Tiffin Ave. New Michaels store manager Erendira Flores holds a giant pair of scissors after cutting a ribbon to signify the store's grand opening Saturday morning. The store officially opened to customers late last month with a soft opening. During the grand opening Saturday, on offer for guests were a bounce house and face painting for children, Star Wars costumed characters, a chance for a gift card, raffles, 25% off their total purchase, an art show, craft demos and the El Sabor De Hernandez, Gyro Corner and El Gallo food trucks. "With many of our team members being local themselves, we are thrilled to offer the best of Michaels to Findlay's creative community of artists, DIY-ers, teachers, small business owners and more," Flores said. "Everyone is welcome at our craft table." Michaels is the largest specialty arts and crafts retailer in North America, with 1,275 stores in 49 states and Canada. The company was founded in 1973 and is headquartered in Irving, Texas.
