Treasurer's office extends hours

SANDUSKY — Erie County treasurer Caleb Stidham recently announced details for the area's second-half real estate tax collection. Bills, via mail, went out to taxpayers earlier this month with a due date of Wednesday, July 12. The treasurer's office will be traveling for two days in June across Erie County to collect property taxes. Listed below are the dates and times of collection events: Wednesday, June 28 • 9 a.m. to noon at KeyBank, 4700 Liberty Ave. (U.S. 6), in Vermilion • 1-4 p.m. at the Huron Public Library, 333 Williams St., in Huron Thursday, June 29 • 9 a.m. to noon at Margaretta Township Hall, 114 Main St., in Castalia • 1-4 p.m. on June 29 at the Milan Public Library, 19 Church St., in Milan The county treasurer's office will once again extend the hours they are open to the public during tax collection from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through July 12. How to pay Taxpayers can utilize a variety of payment methods in the treasurer's office — at 247 Columbus Ave. Suite 115, in Sandusky — which include cash, check or money order. Additionally, for the first time, taxpayers can pay by debit or credit card. Tax bills must be presented at the time of payment. Taxpayers can also mail a check to the treasurer's office by using the enclosed envelope and stub on the bottom of their bills. And payments can still be made by phone by calling 1-877-739-5989. The treasurer's office is also debuting a new website for taxpayers to search for their property tax information and/or pay their real estate tax bill. Taxpayers can visit treasurer.eriecounty.oh.gov to search for their property, view a PDF of their tax bill and pay their property taxes using a convenient cart feature. Additional features include viewing how their tax dollars are distributed to local governmental entities and viewing how upcoming ballot levies will affect their property taxes. "The treasurer's office has been hard at work to make our office more accessible to taxpayers. We are really excited to debut the new website, which has been in development for months," county treasurer Caleb Stidham said. "Taxpayers will be able to find tax information much easier and quickly pay their property tax bill. My office is also looking forward to once again make our way across the county to conveniently collect taxes across our communities."
