Findlay Legion goes 2-3, stands at 18-7 on season

Findlay's Legion baseball team started off its stretch of five games in two days on a tear, rolling to wins over Zanesville and Cambridge by a combined score of 20-9. But things turned after that. Findlay then fell to Marietta, Parkersburg and Marietta again, ending the weekend with an overall record of 18-7. In the opening game against Zanesville, Mason Johnson – fresh off an appearance with Calvert in the state tournament last month – doubled and homered, driving in three runs in Findlay's 7-3 victory. Findlay's Jordan Vallejo added a two-run single, while Trevin Lieb added two singles while picking up the win on the mound. Lieb – a Liberty-Benton product – threw seven innings and allowed three unearned runs while striking out four and walking two. He improved to 1-1. In Game 2 against Cambridge, Findlay's bats came to life as it collected 17 hits in a 13-6 drubbing. Braeden Jordan highlighted the barrage with a homer, a single and three RBIs. Evan Reiter added a trible and double while plating two. Vallejo also added two RBIs, picking up two singles and an RBI. Gunnar Kepling (3-1B) and Landen Stansbery (2-1B) also drove in two runs. Caden Fritz added three singles and drove in a run for Findlay Johnson threw four innings and allowed two runs while striking out one. He improved to 2-0. Against Marietta, Findlay continued to hit, scoring four runs in the third and six in the fourth. But Marietta rallied for seven in the fifth and held on for a 12-10 win. Vallejo slapped three singles and drove in four runs, while Jordan had three singles and Johnson, singled, doubled and drove in a run. Fritz took the loss; his first decision of the season. After that, Findlay was routed by Parkersburg 14-4. Kepling took the loss, falling to 4-2. Lieb had two singles and an RBI while Fritz doubled and drove in a run. Findlay wrapped up the set with an 11-4 loss to Marietta. Vallejo (4-2) took the loss.
