Cooper fire injures none

No civilians were injured but two firefighters were taken to the hospital following a Friday night fire. The Findlay Fire Department was dispatched to 701 Lima Ave. for a fire at Cooper Tire. Battalion Chief Matt Cooper said four engines and 14 firefighters arrived on scene four minutes after the 7:09 p.m. call. Cooper said the department arrived at the Western Avenue entrance to the plant to see smoke coming out of one of the doors. Firefighters were told a neighboring door was the closest point of access and once inside found fires in two air handling units. Firefighters were dispatched to two different points on the building, the second floor roof and the fourth floor roof, to gain access to the units. During the process, eight more firefighters and another engine was called into service. During the course of fighting the blaze, two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion and were transported by Hanco EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital for heat exhaustion. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and damage estimates were not available Monday.
