Boy band brings back hits

Dedicated fans were still swarming for attention from four boys who made it big on Nickelodeon over a decade ago. ANGELA LAROSA / The Courier Big Time Rush finished their 17th show for the Can't Get Enough Tour, with TikTok star Jax and Rags (2012) star Max Schneider. And, the arena was filled with families of all ages, some who have been following the band since their 2009 television premier. Jax opened the show at 7 p.m. at The Schottenstein Center in Columbus Saturday. Starting the show, she performed her hit songs "90s Kids," "Cinderella Snapped," "Like My Father" and "Victoria's Secret." Her energetic and interactive performance captivated the audience and set the stage for the night. Jax gained fame after competing in the 14th season of American Idol and the 27-year-old star from New Jersey gained popularity again using TikTok, writing parody covers from different perspectives, like the mom in "Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne or a guy driving behind Olivia Rodrigo in her song "Driver's License." Max Schneider, a former Nickelodeon star, came out kicking next. He gave a strong performance with a sax solo and hot dance moves. With performances of his own songs like "Lights Down Low" and a cover of "Drop it Like It's Hot" originally by Snoop Dog, Schneider dominated the second act and got the crowd pumped for the main event. Scheinder starred in the 2012 movie Rags and Nickelodeon sitcom "How To rock" which aired for one season the same year. He also guest starred in Law & Order: SVU and The View. After both performances, Big Time Rush entered the stage on risers, to the arena filled with children, teens and adults alike screaming. Big Time Rush formed as a band in 2009 when Nickelodeon premiered a show under the same name. The show ran for four seasons until 2013 when the show ended. The four-member boy band dispersed to do their own things before reconnecting as a band again in 2021. And for the first time in a decade, the band performed in Columbus again. The headliners kicked off with "Can't Get Enough" from their 2023 album Another Life. The band performed generational songs from all their years, including early hit songs like "Worldwide" and "Boyfriend" from their 2011 self-titled album and the Big Time Rush theme song. During the performance of "Worldwide," Carlos PenaVega, James Maslow, Kendall Schmidt and Logan Henderson — the members of Big Time Rush — each brought a fan to the stage and serenaded them. Incorporating their timeless songs and signature boy band dance moves, the concert ended with the first track on their 2011 album, "Til I Forget About You." Each song incorporated the audience and brought younger selves out of the fans who have been following the band since their debut.
