Countdown to Football: Hopewell-Loudon 2022 RECORD: 9-3 overall, 5-0 Sandusky Bay Conference – River Division KEY GAME: August 18, at home, vs. Carey. For the third-straight year, Hopewell-Loudon will open its season against another area powerhouse, the Carey Blue Devils. Except this time, it's a rubber match. In 2021, H-L defeated Carey 30-15 at home. Last season, Carey got home-field advantage, and took home the victory, 37-8.PLAYOFF HISTORY: In the last few years, Hopewell-Loudon has done very well in the postseason. In 2020, the Chieftains advanced to the regional final before falling to Lima Central Catholic, 62-20. In 2021, not only did H-L get further than the regional final, it beat LCC to get there. H-L made easy work of LCC in the regional final, 54-26, before falling to Marion Local, 34-7, in the state semifinals. Last season, the Chieftains fell in the second round to a streaking Columbia Station Columbia team, which went undefeated in the regular season and won 13 straight before losing to Columbus Grove in the regional final. INTERESTING FACT: The Chieftains are returning five first-team All-SBC-River members of their 2022 roster. Hopewell-Loudon had the most all-SBC-River selections last year, with nine players across the first and second teams, and two honorable mentions.
