Tiffin Drive-In holding 1st annual horror fest

TIFFIN — Tiffin native Hope Madden is set to attend a screening of her horror-comedy film "Obstacle Corpse" at the Tiffin Drive-In, 4101 N. Ohio 53, next weekend. The screening is part of the Tiffin Drive-In's first ever independent horror film festival. The event also will feature Ohio-made short films following "Obstacle Corpse". There also will be three music videos of songs in the movie. Before the show begins, Tiffin band Tinfoil is set to perform live. The local band's song "Monroe Mayhem" is featured in Madden's film. Cher Bibler of Tiffin is Tinfoil's rhythm guitarist and sometimes vocalist, and Dave Harms, Tiffin native now living in Rossford, plays lead guitar and also provides vocals. Bass guitar is provided by Krystal Harms of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Bill Nichols of Toledo is the band's drummer. Tinfoil was formed in 1991. Madden will be available for a meet and greet during the event. Some of the filmmakers of the feature shorts also will be in attendance. Ogden Ohio Newspapers spoke to Madden back in March 2022 when she first began directing the film. "I have always written poetry and short stories," she said. "I have sent out countless writings over the years. "About six or seven years ago, I started writing screenplays as a new way to tell stories. That's how I started (in filmmaking and directing). I started submitting the screenplays to festivals and they did really well," she said. "My screenplays were accepted to 12 festivals and won one. So, I started making short films. The first month into COVID, I did a short film featuring one character in a car. 'Godspeed' (the short film) got accepted to festivals and won awards." Madden then went on to create a proof of concept short called "Obstacle Corpse," which has since blossomed into Madden's current writing/directing project — a feature-length film of the same name, based off the short. "The film is women-led," Madden said. "It wasn't something I set out to do, but it is exciting. People kept recommending different women to me, not because they're female, but because they're good." She also released her first book "Roost" in March 2022. The book follows twin sisters in rural Ohio and mysterious events that happen on their Easter birthday. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and the cost is $10 per carload.
