McComb goes metal

A national marching band competition is sweeping across the country and a local band is amongst those participating. The McComb High School Marching Band submitted a video performance of the Metallica song "Wherever I May Roam" to For Whom the Band Tolls, an inaugural marching band competition. The competition challenges marching bands at all levels across the country to craft "the most exciting, unique and impressive performances" using Metallica's music. Competing bands have access to a library of Metallica's songs like "Enter Sandman," "Creeping Death," "Hit the Lights" and more. Bands at the high school and collegiate levels are competing for new musical equipment for the school's program, to be furnished by Metallica and the competition's sponsors. The bands are separated into three collegiate divisions and three high school divisions separated by band size. With less than 75 members, McComb's marching band is competing in the small band level for $15,000 in prizes. Winners will be narrowed down to five finalists by professional judges and Metallica will select the final prize winners in each category. Community helps McComb is competing against 101 high school marching bands across the country and 15 schools in Ohio for the fan favorite and $10,000.
