Klotz, Sertell lead FHS at Trojan Duals

WRESTLING FINDLAY DUALS Keegan Klotz went 5-0 and Austin Sertell won four of his five matches in leading Findlay High's wrestling team at Saturday's Trojan Duals Tournament. Harrison won the overall title in the 12-school meet, with narrow wins over Wauseon (42-38) and Napoleon (37-30) in the Gold Division. Findlay was second in Pool C in the early rounds, and fourth in the final standings in the Silver Division after beating Olmsted Falls 45-24 in the second round before falling 61-15 to Harrison. Findlay had earlier beaten Oak Harbor 42-36 but dropped a 62-18 decision to state-ranked Miami East. Klotz, a junior and wrestling in the 190-pound weight class, pinned every opponent he faced, three of them in the first period. His fifth win came via forfeit. Sertell, a three-sport athlete (football, wrestling, baseball) for Findlay High, wrestled three matches at 157 and bumped up a weight class and competed in two matches at 165. The senior letterman won three of his contests by pin and was involved in two 3-0 decisions, winning one against Olmsted Falls but dropping one by the same score against Harrison. Senior Logan Trinko was 3-2 in the 285-pound division, with all three of his wins being by pin. Kaliber Brubaker at 113 and Kellan Bruni at 138 went 3-2 in their five matches, and Cohen Shannon at 144 was 2-3. Findlay fielded a second team in the tournament. That team went 0-5, but Madison Smith, wrestling in the 120-pound division, was 4-1 with three pins and a major decision. HAMILTON TOWNSHIP GIRLS CLASSIC COLUMBUS-- Findlay's girls wrestling team had three champions, and cruised to a first-place finish at the Hamilton Township Girls Classic in Columbus. Trojans' Emily Catan took home the 125-pound crown, while 170-pounder Kate Simmons and 190 pounder (and last year's state runner-up) Laney Oliver also won titles. Findlay used those wins -- as well as runner-up finishes by Julia Bollenbacher (145) and Graceanne Strausbaugh (155) -- to attain 181 points and the team championship. Host Hamilton Township finished with 118 points, as wrestlers from 23 schools participated CORY-RAWSON DUALS RAWSON – Archbold took the team title and Ada's Clayton McClain was the tournament MVP at the Cory-Rawson Duals on Saturday. Archbold went 5-0 in the event, beating Columbus Grove 55-24, Ada 64-18, Cory-Rawson 72-6, Arcadia 72-4 and Delphos Jefferson 63-12. Grove (4-1) finished second, Ada (3-2) third, Cory-Rawson (2-3) fourth, Arcadia (1-4) fifth and Delphos Jefferson (0-5) sixth. McClain went unbeaten wrestling at both 157 and 165. He had three pins, and capped his MVP performance with a 7-3 decision over Columbus Grove's Logan Mershman, a state alternate last season, in his final match. Grove's Ethan Beam (120), Brody Wild (175) and Gavin Schroeder (190) all went 5-0, with Wild pinning three of his opponents and Beam and Schroeder getting two pins each. Colin Sautter (138) and Mershman (165) were 4-1 for the Bulldogs, and Connor Amstutz (144) was 3-2. In addition to McClain, Ada's Silas Riblet (113), Layne Simon (157/165) and Landon Simon (215) all went 4-1. Cobe Harris (285) was 3-1, and Kale Pederson (144) and Lima Viera (150) were 3-2. Jaiden Smith and Jacob Anderson led Cory-Rawson. Both had three pins, with Smith going 5-0 at 126 and Anderson 3-2 at 132. Arcadia's Kale Price wrestled in both the 144- and 150-pound divisions, and went 5-0 with two pins and two major decisions. JIMMY MAC INVITATIONAL BELLEFONTAINE – Van Buren's Collin Wagner and Brooks Hill went unbeaten through the tournament and won weight class titles at the Jimmy Mac Invitational in Bellefontaine on Saturday. Hill followed a first-round bye in the 126-pound division with a narrow 3-2 decision over Beavercreek's Blake Besecker, then pinned his next four opponents to go 5-0. Wagner was 4-0 at 175 with two pins and a major decision. Drew Phillips also competed at 175, going 3-1 with his lone loss to Wagner. Ryan Gifford posted a 3-2 record and was sixth at 215. ASHLAND INVITATIONAL ASHLAND – Three Carey wrestlers placed third and the Blue Devils were sixth in the 14-team overall standings at the Ashland Invitational. Jordan Hertel (3 pins) at 144, Reid Blenkenmeyer (3 pins) at 175 and Maddox Perry at 190 all placed third. Mason Rickle (165) was fourth for Carey, Kayden Burgei (138) was fifth, and Kaiden Bays (150), Brady Atkinson (157) and Dawson Birchnaugh (175) were sixth. (14-sub head) Good gets ace Jeff Good scored a hole-in-one at Findlay's Hillcrest Golf Club on Friday, acing the 129-yard No. 8 hole with a pitching wedge. Witnessing the shot were Bob Cochi, Jim Burroughs and Brian Burroughs.
