Wind turbine blade falls

A blade fell off a One Energy wind turbine north of Findlay on Monday, the company reported. The blade fell directly down to the foundation of the southernmost turbine on One Energy's campus, just north of Allen Township Road 99 and northwest of Lowe's Distribution Center. The blade "literally went straight down," One Energy Chief Executive Officer Jereme Kent said. "Nothing left our property. No one was injured." Mechanical failure caused the blade to come down about 11:55 a.m. Monday, the company reported. One Energy personnel were at the site to secure it by noon and perform a "full drone inspection of the wind turbine and site," the company reported. Company systems had immediately alerted workers to the blade failure, Kent said. Workers were still at the site hours later. "We have done some inspections. All of the preliminary inspections say that the tower is fine, the other blades are fine," he said. One Energy will be doing further investigation, then cleanup and replacement of the blade. "Out of an abundance of caution, all wind turbines owned by One Energy have been shut down while a preliminary investigation is underway," the company stated. "One Energy will continue to communicate with the public as it has additional information."
