Ramming trucker gets 11-14 years

FINDLAY — An Illinois truck driver was sentenced Wednesday to 11 to 14 years in prison for deliberately ramming two vehicles on Interstate 75 in Findlay with a semi. Vladimir Tasciuc, 37, of Aurora, Illinois, was sentenced in Hancock County Common Pleas Court by Judge Reginald Routson. Routson also suspended Tasciuc's license to drive for life. Tasciuc was convicted by a jury in December of two counts of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He was sentenced to a minimum of six years on one offense and five years on the other. If Judge Routson had imposed the sentences concurrently, Tasciuc would be serving 6 to 9 years in prison. But citing "serious psychological harm" to the victims and Tasciuc's lack of remorse, Routson ordered the sentences served consecutively: hence a total of 11 to 14 years. Tasciuc was driving south on I-75 in September when he rammed a Honda Pilot, driven by a vacation-bound Michigan woman with her family. The ramming forced the SUV to speeds of about 90 mph, drove the vehicle off the highway and blew out its rear windshield. Tasciuc then repeatedly rammed a tractor-trailer about 13 times near the rest area just south of Findlay, dashcam video from Tasciuc's semi shows. The other truck driver pulled over to the side of the road and got out to see what was happening. Tasciuc tried to disable the other truck. He also got out of his truck and proceeded to beat up the other truck driver. A State Highway Patrol trooper arrived at the scene and took control of the situation.
