Herr takes superintendent position

MCCOMB — The McComb Board of Education approved to employ Jeremy Herr as superintendent during their regular February meeting on Wednesday. Herr's contract is set for a period of three years, beginning on Aug. 1. Herr has served the McComb Local School District for 27 years, with 14 years as the middle/high school principal. Before that, he taught science, math and English to grades 5-7. The position was vacated in September 2023 when former superintendent Tony Fenstermaker left the district after accepting a director of finance position at North Baltimore Local Schools. The search for a new middle/high school principal will begin soon, Herr said during the meeting. In other business, the board approved interim superintendent Jeff Young's recommendations for the school to join the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2024-25 school year, to participate in interdistrict open enrollment (meaning any student can enroll at McComb, no matter the district they reside in), to mark April 8 as a calamity day ahead of the total solar eclipse, and to approve the 2024-25 school calendar. The cafeteria budget also received an increase of $30,000 for equipment purchases, said Treasurer Linda Clymer. The board's next meeting will be 6:30 p.m. March 13 in the McComb school cafeteria.
