Arlington rolls past Vanlue, will face Mohawk

ARLINGTON 76 VANLUE 32 VANLUE – Arlington had 24 points by the end of the first quarter, scored another 22 in the third quarter and ran off with a 76-32 win over Vanlue in a Division IV sectional semifinal. The Red Devils, who received 15 points from Caden Russell, improved to 16-6. They will travel to take on Mohawk Friday in the sectional final in Sycamore. BALTIMORE 34 GIBSONBURG – Zach McGough knocked down eight 3-pointers, finished with 26 points, and Gibsonburg dominated after a close first quarter to eliminate North Baltimore with a 69-34 win. The Golden Bears only led 15-13 after the first period, but broke away thanks in large part to their outside shooting. Gibsonburg shot 10 of 28 from behind the arc. Gibsonburg will travel to Tiffin to take on Calvert in the Division IV sectional final Friday. For North Baltimore, Owen Clark finished with eight points, while Rowan Tackett registered seven points and two assists. Luke Long grabbed seven rebounds for the Tigers. NORTH BALTIMORE (9-14) O. NEW RIEGEL 79 HARDIN NORTHERN 58 NEW RIEGEL – New Riegel senior Mathew Flores was just a little ready for the postseason to start Wednesday as he buried eight 3-pointers – five in the third quarter alone – as the Blue Jackets rolled past Hardin Northern 79-58 in a Division IV sectional semifinal. Flores dropped in a game-high 29 points, while Reese Goshe added 17 and Shane Jones ended with 15. The Blue Jackets led 38-24 after the first half and upped that to 64-46 after three. Xander Wilson paced the Polar Bears with 18 points, while Cooper Thomas chipped in 17 and Landon Wetherill ended with 10. The Blue Jackets (16-7) will now travel to rival Old Fort (18-5) Friday at 7 p.m. They split the regular season with the Stockaders. OLD FORT 73 McCOMB 42 OLD FORT – After leading 32-20 at the half Wednesday, Old Fort put together a 41-22 second half to take down McComb 73-42 in a Division IV sectional semifinal. Konnor Ernsberger led the onslaught with 23 points and seven rebounds for Old Fort (18-5), who will now take on rival New Riegel Friday at home at 7 p.m. It also got 13 points from Carter DuBois, 12 points and five assists by Isiah Perez and nine rebounds from Ryan Adelsperger. McComb (3-19) got 12 points from Parker Downing. OF had a 36-18 rebounding edge. ARCADIA 36 FREMONT ST. JOE 34 FREMONT – Arcadia didn't have to go back too far to develop a game plan against Fremont St. Joe in the Division IV sectional semifinal Wednesday. The Redskins played the Streaks in their regular season finale Feb. 17, and lost 48-40. But Arcadia avenged that loss, defeating St. Joe 36-34 Wednesday and advancing to Friday's sectional final at top-seeded Hopewell-Loudon. The Redskins improved to 7-16.
