Swisher outlasts Forquer, Findlay edges Northview

Sam Swisher needed 2 ½ hours to defeat Northview's Max Forquer in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (9), 4-6, 7-2 (2), For the Findlay boys tennis team, it was worth every second. That's because Swisher's victory made the difference in the Trojans' 3-2 win over the Wildcats Thursday indoors at the YMCA East Branch. The match was moved inside due to weather. Findlay's other two victories came in doubles contests. Aaron Miller and Owen Vick notched a 6-0, 6-3 win over Northview's Nathan Taylor and Bryce Behan. At second doubles, the Trojans' duo of Owen Metz and Jonathan Wright recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory against the Wildcats' Ethan Mack and Gavin Mack. In singles play, Northview's Shane Kagy stopped the Trojans' Luke Williams, 6-3, 6-0. The Wildcats also got a victory at third singles, where Hunter Moriarity got past Findlay's Ben Mayle, 6-3, 6-3. The Trojans improved to 3-1, 2-0 in the Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division. Findlay will travel to play at Napoleon at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. BOYS LACROSSE FINDLAY 9 MARYSVILLE 8 Nathan Marchal and Jackson Lane each scored two goals, and Findlay avenged last season's postseason loss to Marysville by edging the Monarchs Thursday, 9-8. Cole Kirian added a goal and two assists for the Trojans, who improved to 2-3. Will Hammer, Ben Mueller each had a goal and assist for Findlay, while Dante Coffman recorded a goal. The Trojans' Jude Brasfield made five saves in goal. Findlay will play again next Thursday when it travels to Buckeye Valley. BASEBALL RIVERDALE 11 RIDGEDALE 1 MOUNT BLANCHARD – Riverdale got a strong pitching effort from Alex Russler, and routed Ridgedale 11-1 in five innings. Russler, usually the Falcons' catcher, struck out seven batters while allowing three hits and one unearned run. He also singled, doubled and added four RBIs. Riverdale improved to 4-0, getting two singles and an RBI from Evan Reiter and a single and RBI from Cam Furr, who also scored twice. Lex Weber singled twice and drove in a run for Riverdale, which is scheduled to host Leipsic this afternoon. It just came a little too late. The Black Knights trailed the Eagles 9-0 going to the top of the seventh inning. Van Buren scored six runs in the seventh, but didn't complete the comeback, falling 9-6. James Patton singled, scored and drove in a run for the Black Knights, while Brady Lance doubled, scored and had an RBI. Grady Mason started for the Black Knights on the mound, and went five innings, allowing seven runs, four earned and not striking out a batter.
