L-B girls claim crown at Bobcat Invite

BOBCAT INVITATIONAL BOWLING GREEN – Liberty-Benton's girls didn't have any individual champions at the Duff Madaras Bobcat Invitational Friday night in Bowling Green. But the Eagles bunched up a number of high placers in events, and cobbled together enough points for the team title, outdistancing Fremont Ross, 113-107. Findlay's girls also participated, and led by a first-place finish from Katelyn Stechschulte in the long jump, fourth in the eight-team event, with 78 points. Stechschulte cleared 16-8 in the high jump. For Liberty-Benton, Lindsay May ran the 400 in 1:03.51 for a runner-up finish. Right behind her was teammate Eva Padron, who crossed the line in 1:03.85 for third. May and Padron also finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 200. L-B's Madi Gaerke ran the 1,600 in 5:44.63 to finish second, while her teammate, Emily Eyink, threw 33-5 ½ in the shot to take second. In the discus, the Eagles' Evie Parmelee (104-4) took third. Katie Collert (5-0) claimed third in the long jump. The Trojans also had a number of second-place finishes: Lindsay Clarke (12:43.46) in the 3,200, Corinne Seager (16.8) in the 100 hurdles and the 4x200 squad of Mya Hammer, Lilly Zaciewski, Josey Weihrauch and Stechschulte (1:54.9). On the boys side, Findlay and Liberty-Benton each had a pair of first place finishes, and placed third and fourth, respectively, in the team standings. Oak Harbor won the boys meet with 124 points, ahead of Fremont Ross, which scored 117. Findlay (106) and Fremont Ross (117) followed in the eight-team standings. Findlay's Adrian Stechschulte won the 800 in 2:02.87 and the Trojans' relay team of Israel Moore, Dominic Smith, Jacob Ragland and Avion Miles took first in the 4x100 in 44.25. That group also placed second in the 4x200 in 1:32.79. Moore also finished second in the 100, crossing the line in 11.07 and just ahead of Smith, who took third in 11:09. Smith added a runner-up in the 200, finishing in 22.68. FHS' Jimmy Steffen claimed second in the 300 hurdles (43.26). Liberty-Benton's Stefan Kolan won the pole vault, clearing 12-6. The Eagles' other victory came in the 4x800, with Gabe St. Amour, Evan Makowski, Justin Cook and Jackson Hochstettler registering a 8:25.48. Hochstettler placed second in the 1,600 (4:30.13), while St. Amour was runner-up in the 3,200 (9:59.75). In the discus, L-B claimed second and third place, with Tyler Grose throwing 158-0 and Jevon Carpenter 130-0. DOUG MOWERY INVITATIONAL VAN BUREN – Van Buren won the girls title by a lot and the boys crown by a little in weeping the final results of the Doug Mowery Invitational on its home track on Friday, Van Buren's girls finished with a 168-106 margin of victory over Kalida (106). Lake was a close third (102), followed by Elmwood (100.33), Carey (80.33), Arlington (42.33), McComb (33), Vanlue (11), North Baltimore (8) and Arcadia (5). Van Buren's boys title was by a closer 155.50 to 137 margin over Lake. Arlington (87) edged Carey (86) by one point for third, followed by McComb (73), Kalida (52), Elmwood (48(), Vanlue (12.5), North Baltimore (7) and Arcadia (1). Van Buren's girls scored well in the 1,600 where Lily Grady (6:03.75) and Olivia Coutinho (6:05.15) finish 1-2. Those two runners flipped spots in the 3,200, with Coutinho (13:11.26) first and Grady (13:11.31) second in as near photo finish. Van Buren also went 1-2 in the 300 hurdles with Ryle Orchard first in 52.09) and Keely Parsell second (53.29). Van Buren added three firsts in the field events, with Brylee Ponn winning the high jump (4-10), Macey Wagner the pole vault (7-0) and Courtney Snyder the shot put (31-9). Carey's Abbie Bushong won the discus (126-2). In the boys meet, Van Buren's Mikey Pendergast won the 100 (11.55) and 200 (23.78) and ran a leg on the winning 1,600 relay (3:37.83) with Landon Fisher, Reed Harmon and Curtis Ware. Elmwood's Jakob Zibbel was a double winner in the 1,600 (4:41.96) and 3,200 (10:41.55), while Carey's Baker Brody swept both hurdles, winning the 110 highs in 16.36) and the 300 intermediates ( 42.65) at the wire over Van Buren's Ware (42.85). Brody, Bryce Puckett, Eli Steen and Brayden Young also won the 800 rela (1:36.71) Arlington's Calvin Willow went 6-2 to win the high jump, Clay Hurt went 10-6 to capture the pole vault. McComb scored very well in the field events with Braxton Althauser, a state qualifier last spring, winning the long jump (20-7½) and Elijah Gibbs and Nick Bormuth dominating the throws. Gibbs was first in the shot (50-1½) and second in the discus (144-11). Bormuth was first in the discus (154-10) and second in the shot (44-11½).
