I-75 overpass at West Bigelow closed

FINDLAY — The Interstate 75 overpass on Findlay's West Bigelow Avenue was closed to traffic on Friday, as crews work to repair curbs leading up to the overpass. The overpass bridge will be closed to all traffic for about two weeks. City Engineer Jeremy Kalb said there are no problems with the bridge itself. "In order to properly repair the curb up to the overpass and at the triangular island, at the curve, we are needing to close down that portion of the roadway so that crews can remove and replace the necessary concrete," Kalb said. "The roadways are pretty narrow in that area so we would not be able to remove the curb and still have a safe passage across I-75 for vehicles." Once work to the west/north side of the roadway is complete, the curbwork will then flip to the east/south edge. "We will have a detour posted for the road closure, but ultimately we are hoping to get that open to traffic sooner than later," he said. The city is advising motorists to avoid the area. Kalb said the goal is to have the entire project completed by early June, to avoid any impact to the construction of the new interchange at Interstate 75-County Road 99, just to the north on I-75. That construction is expected to begin in mid-May. The $31-million diverging diamond interchange is expected to improve traffic flow in the area.
