Trojans sweep Lima Shawnee

FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;7-10SHAWNEE &emsp;&emsp;1-0 LIMA – Findlay High's softball team capped a marathon week of games on an up note on Saturday, getting solid pitching and plenty of offense in sweeping Lima Shawnee in a doubleheader. Natalie Steffes gave up one run on four hits and struck out nine in the opener, a 7-1 Findlay win. Freshman Emily Cole then threw a two-hitter in a 10-0 game two shutout. Laney Oliver went 6-for-8 in the two games, with three base hits in the first game and a single, double, home run and three runs-batted-in in the second. Freshman Monika Kerwin homered in the opener, Ryan Boes had a single and a double and Addelyn Sprang doubled and drove in three runs. Sprang also drove in three runs in game two with a single and a home run. Kerwin had a single, a triple and scored two runs, Reagan Bruskotter had a pair of base hits and Annabelle Cooper had two hits and two RBI. Playing its seventh game in six days, Findlay ended a five-game skid and improved to 14-7 heading into today's Northern Lakes League game at Napoleon and Wednesday's home game against either Wapakoneta or Lima Senior in an OHSAA sectional tournament matchup. Lyla Hotzberger was credited with a five-inning no-hitter against Arlington. Makenna Eibling had three hits, Heidi Trachsel had two, including a two-run home run, Holtzberger singled, doubled and drove in two runs and Emmah Boose had a two-run double. Hardin Northern evened off at 8-8 heading into today's Division IV sectional tournament game at Upper Scioto Valley. Arlington had the bats going in an 18-3 win over Cory-Rawson. Ellie Marquart pitched a three-hitter, struck out six and drove in three runs with three base hits. H-LOUDON &emsp;&emsp;9 NEW RIEGEL 5 BASCOM – Hopewell-Loudon used four-run rallies in the fifth and sixth innings to overcome an early deficit and chalk up a 9-5 win over state-ranked New Riegel in a key Sandusky Bay Conference River Division softball game. Isabelle Beidelschies (2-1B, 2B, 4 RBI) had a bases-loaded single in the fifth inning and added an RBI single in the sixth. Brynn Sendelbach doubled in two runs in the sixth. The loss was just the third in 23 games for New Riegel, ranked No. 4 in Division IV. Hopewell-Loudon is 18-4. The outcome left both teams with 13-2 records in the SBC's River Division.
