Rainy day sets up a big Friday in local sports

It was supposed to be a big day for area sports Thursday. But Mother Nature had other ideas. And, as usual, she got her way. There were numerous postponements and cancellations. Most of postseason contests were rescheduled for today. The Division I sectional tennis tournament, scheduled to be played Thursday afternoon at FHS, was postponed and rescheduled for 1 p.m. today. The Trojans tennis team will be competing there. In softball, rain pushed a number of postseason games to today. In Division IV, Leipsic will play at Miller City today at 5 p.m. That game was originally set for today. The same is true of the North Baltimore/New Riegel contest, Vanlue/Mohawk, Hopewell-Loudon/Calvert and Carey/Arcadia. Hardin Northern at New Bremen, originally set for Thursday, was also moved to 5 p.m. today. In addition, a number of other second-round softball tournament games were already scheduled for day: Division II Van Wert at Liberty-Benton, 5 p.m. Division III Bluffton at Rockford Parkway, 5 p.m. Delphos Jefferson at Van Buren, 5 p.m. In track, the Northwest Central Conference was scheduled to have Day 1 of its meet Thursday, but now it will attempt to run its entire meet Saturday at Hardin Northern. The Blanchard Valley Conference meet will take place today in Fostoria. The second day of the Northern Lakes League will take place today in Oregon, and the Western Buckeye League – which includes Ottawa-Glandorf – also will have the second day of its meet today, in Lima.
