Police investigate shooting death

FINDLAY — Police are still investigating the circumstances behind a shooting that killed 18-year-old J'vion Zimmerman. On Sunday, Zimmerman, a Port Clinton resident, was found in an alley in Findlay with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a release from the Findlay Police Department. He succumbed to his wounds at Blanchard Valley Hospital. A number of people shared messages of sympathy on Facebook. "You (were) taken from us way too soon. Our (hearts are) broken. It's a nightmare," Benjamin Salyers wrote. "We love you, J'vion." "Please pray for his mother, sister and my brother-in-law," Michelle Rodriguez wrote. "J'vion, you will be so missed." Zimmerman graduated from Port Clinton High School in 2023, where he played on the school's varsity football team, according to a MaxPreps high school sports profile. An update from Findlay police states they had located a person of interest, but that the subject was a minor and no name or other information would be released at this time. When asked if there is an active public threat, Findlay police Lt. Andrew Welch said he doesn't believe a threat can ever be completely ruled out, but that the "Findlay Police Department is devoted to providing the safest environment possible for the community." Welch said the department is very early in the investigative process. The department did not identify a suspect or indicate how the person of interest is related to the shooting. No arrests have been made. "We are developing names of possible witnesses and trying to get in touch with them," Welch said. Welch said it's too early to determine what charges may be requested, but that it is safe to say there is a high probability of charges. "We will have to see what the investigation reveals," he said.
