Findlay Legion goes 2-2 in Ottawa

OTTAWA – Findlay's American Legion baseball team pounded out two big wins but managed just two runs in two other games in going 2-2 over the weekend in the Tawa Run tournament held in Ottawa.Findlay scored 36 runs in posting 15-1 and 19-1 wins over Westerville's Junior (17U) and Senior (18U) teams, respectively. Findlay fell to the host Ottawa team 7-2 and dropped a 10-0 decision to Blissfield.Hopewell-Loudon grad Caine McDonald had a two-run double, added an RBI single and drove in four runs in Sunday's 15-1 win over Westerville (17U). Four bases-loaded walks, a wild pitch and a hit batsmen gifted Findlay six of its nine runs in the first inning. Colton Bradford had a two-run single during a five-run rally in the second.Jarrett Haan also had two hits for Findlay. Caden Ottenbacher pitched three hitless innings for the win.Grady Mason lined three singles and drove in four runs in Findlay's 19-1 over Westerville (18U) on Friday. Haan also had three hits, with James Patton, Bradford, Trevin Lieb and Trenton Smith collecting two each.Brennan Runyon belted a two-run home run in the third inning and Blissfield scored seven runs in the sixth of Saturday's 10-0 win over Post 3. Ryan Sieler limited Findlay to three hits and struck out eight over five innings.Ben Best smashed a solo home run against Ottawa Post 63. But Ottawa got a two-run double from Brendan Barlage and RBI singles from Austin Bockrath, Kyle Hopkins and Hunter Scott in beating Findlay 7-2.Case Stegaman went six innings for the win, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out eight.The weekend results evened Findlay's record at 3-3 heading into today's game at Sidney.Ottawa (4-2) finished second in the tournament, falling 10-5 to Blissfield in Sunday's championship game. The Post 63 team advanced to the final with a wild 12-7 win over Adrian in which Ottawa, ahead 6-2 after five innings but trailing 7-6 after six, used three-run and two-run doubles during a seventh-inning rally to achieve the win.
