Haan, Findlay Legion topple Dayton

Findlay Legion's Jarrett Haan, a Liberty-Benton standout, pounded out three hits Sunday in a 9-1 win over Dayton Lightning.Ben Best, from Findlay High School, drove in three runs, and Findlay Legion's James Patton, from Van Buren, then hit a sacrifice fly.In the second, Best added another RBI single. Findlay Legion had 13 hits in the victory.Van Buren's Grady Mason was the winning pitcher. He allowed one run on three hits over 3 1/3 innings.Best, Landon Snow, and Caden Fritz each combined to throw shutout baseball for the rest of the game. Gavin McLane, Mcdonald, and Fritz each collected multiple hits for Findlay, which will play at Pemberville Wednesday. MILLSTREAM RACING Cap Henry from Bellevue survived restarts on the 20th and again on the final lap to take the checkered flag on Friday in the 30-lap A feature when Millstream Speedway re-opened with a FAST on Dirt 410 sprints event at the local track.Friday's event was the eighth of nine straight nights of racing during the 42nd Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek. It was also Henry's second win in the series and, along with a runner-up finish at Muskingum County Speedway on Thursday and two thirds earlier in the week, vaulted him into a commanding position to take the Speedweek championship.Henry's No. 33 car posted the fastest qualifying time (14.284) and he built a sizeable lead a third of the way through the final. Debris on the track forced one restart on lap 20. Henry faced another restart on lap 30 but again pulled away for his fourth win of the season.Zane DeVault finished second in the A feature, followed by Skylar Gee, Scotty Thiel and Joel Myers, Jr. in the top five.Millstream also held a USAC Thunder Midget feature on Friday. That race was won by Belpre's Zach Wigal.Ohio Sprint Speedway wrapped up Saturday with a $10,000 to win feature at the Atomic Speedway near Chillicothe.Millstream has two Great Lakes Super Sprints events scheduled this season, a GLSS Super, Traditional and Lightning Sprints night on Aug. 25, and GLSS Super Sprints, Stocks and Trucks, and Late Models on Oct. 6. (14-sub head)Baxter placesPHILADELPHIA – Gavin Baxter, a freshman-to-be at Columbus Grove High School, placed fifth in the long jump (20-3¾) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (13.98) at the New Balance National Outdoor Track and Field Meet.Baxter, who earlier this year won state titles in the long jump, 100 hurdles and 200 hurdles at the OHSAA Junior High Track Meet, was competing at nationals in the Middle School division. (14 sub head) Phantoms win The Flag City Phantoms shut out the Indiana Assassins, improving to 5-1 with a 41-0 win. The Phantoms also clinced the No. 1 seed for the Players Football Association 2A playoffs. Flag City will travel to Racine, Wisconsin to play the 5-0 Raiders Saturday at 7 p.m.
