Spaghetti dinner to be hosted for local family FINDLAY — An Italian benefit night featuring a spaghetti dinner will be held from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 22 at Taylor Place Senior Living, 1920 Breckenridge Road. The suggested donation is $6. Eat in and drive-thru are both available. The Findlay High School String Quartet will perform at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds will go to the Salazar family. Josh Salazar is the head chef at Taylor Place, and Alli Salazar is a lead STNA (state tested nurse aide). One of their twin daughters has a rare genetic disorder that causes low muscle tone and requires physical, occupational and speed therapy. Woodland Association to meet PORT CLINTON — The Northwest Ohio Woodland Association will meet Aug. 24 at Hopfinger Zimmerman Memorial Park, 4909 W. Oak Harbor Southeast Road (County Road 17), Port Clinton. The day will start with coffee at 9 a.m., followed by the presentation at 9:30. Those attending will walk through Jeff and Mariann Davids' 74-acre woodlands in Ottawa County. The woods have been in Mariann's family for 149 years and was the pride of her great-grandfather, Rady O'Neal, who settled in Bay Township in 1857. An early 1900s newspaper article stated that it was O'Neal's hope that his heirs would protect this rich timber for many years and generations to come. Wood has been harvested twice - in the 1970s and again in 2022. The process of the harvest and the differences between the two harvests will be discussed. Service Forester Max Schrimpf will conduct a walk through the woods to discuss the changes after the harvest, continued management, future regrowth and the next harvest. Jake Peer, who was the consulting forester on the harvest two years ago, will also give background on the harvest. The woods is about 1½ miles from the park.
