Riverdale Falcons 2023: 4-6, 1-6 BVC. KEY GAME: Week 2 at Arlington. Riverdale will be challenged right away by the playoff-tested Red Devils, in the Blanchard Valley Conference opener for both teams. While the Falcons had some good wins last season, only one of them came against a conference rival. If Riverdale is hoping to be more competitive in the BVC, playing close with Arlington will be a good start. A year ago, Riverdale kept the contest with the Red Devils close, falling 14-0. Of course, both teams will be different this season, on the field and on the sidelines. Each program features a first-year head coach. INTERESTING FACT: Riverdale made the postseason – as part of the expanded playoffs – in 2022. Other than 2020, the COVID-19-affected season where every team qualified for the postseason, the last time the Falcons made the playoffs was 2008. That year, while a member of the now-defunct North Central Conference, Riverdale went 8-2 in the regular season before dropping its postseason opener to Pandora-Gilboa. MAGIC NUMBER: 80. Jon Wells is entering his first season as Riverdale head coach, but he had been a long-time assistant with the Falcons. But prior to that, Wells was a standout player at Riverdale. He was a three-time all-northwest district selection; and set a program record by delivering an 80-yard punt.
