FDY is flying high

FINDLAY — The City of Findlay Airport released an update this week on their recent doings and upcoming events. The airport saw over 230 aircraft use its runways in July while traveling to the largest airshow in the nation, EAA Airventure at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Findlay Airport is an appealing stop for travelers on the way to Wisconsin each because of its fuel prices and complimentary hotdog lunch, a release from the airport states. "The success of this airport (FDY) is attributed to the hard work of the airport team and the support from the community," Airport Director Amanda McGee said. "We love what we do and it really shows out here." The FDY team recently completed renovations to the Michael Terry Terminal, which now features furniture and ADA-compliant restrooms. Construction on Runway 7-25 is expected to start in 2025 and will include a full-depth reconstruction, with upgraded lighting and upgraded navigational aids. The project is meant to improve aircraft safety and airport efficiency, the release states. Funding for these projects comes from the Federal Aviation Administration (90%), the Ohio Department of Transportation (5%) and the city of Findlay (5%). In all, the Findlay Airport is set to receive about $6.2 million in improvements to its runways, The Courier reported in April. Finally, the 2nd annual Wings and Wheels event will be held Sept. 21. The event will showcase over 400 classic cars, and the airport expects to draw over 3,000 people. The event will also feature a Ford Tri-Motor and other vintage aircraft. A new addition to this year's event is the 5K on the Runway run, held in memory of beloved airport tenant Hal Durbin, who died in 2023.
