Oilers dominate Wayne State in first half, move to 2-0

DETROIT, Mich. – The University of Findlay used a dominating first half to set the tone and weathered a Wayne State comeback bid in the final two quarter to beat the Warriors 42-30 Saturday at Tom Adams Field in Detroit.Wayne State got a field goal on the first possession of the game, but UF rattled off 35 straight points to lead 35-3 at the half, then pushed its lead to 42-3 early in the third quarter. The Oilers had 265 of their 377 yards of total offense in the first half.UF got another solid passing game from Matthew Rueve, who completed 26-of-35 passes for 281 yards and three TDs – 27 yards to Delon Hart, 21 yards to Mitch Nielson late in the first half, and 14 yards to Cam Childers to make it a 42-3 game early in the third quarter.Makya Matthews, who carried 19 times for 78 yards, added two short TD runs and Jayden Farmer had another. Redd Douglas had six receptions for 55 yards, and Nielsen had four catches for 67 yards and a score.Adoni Bumba led the Oilers' defense with eight tackles. Sam Weihrauch and Christion Stokes had seven each. Aggressive off the line then Oilers recorded 10 tackles for loss.UF plays its home opener and kicks off Great Midwest Athletic Conference play Saturday when the Oilers host Lake Erie College in a noon kickoff at Donnell Stadium. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL BLUFFTON 52JEFFERSON 7DELPHOS – Sophomore quarterback Tayte Giesige threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score in leading unbeaten Bluffton to a 52-7 romp over Delphos Jefferson in a Saturday afternoon Northwest Conference game.Giesige completed 9-of-11 passes, including touchdown throws covering 22 and 61 yards to Griffin Stackhouse and 30 yards to Brody Anderson. Giesige also broke off a 75-yard run for a score as Bluffton scored five touchdowns in the second quarter and led 49-0 at the half.Stackhouse and Landon Worcester added rushing TDs for Bluffton, off to a 4-0 start. The Pirates host 3-1 Spencerville this Friday, and 3-1 Lima Central Catholic on Sept 27.
