Leipsic, L-B remain tied atop BVC volleyball standings

LEIPSIC &emsp;&emsp;3 VANLUE &emsp;&emsp;0 VANLUE – Unbeaten and state-ranked Leipsic rolled to a 25-10, 25-10, 25-8 win over Vanlue on Wednesday in a Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball match. Danaysia Danzy (2 blocks) led Leipsic with 18 kills, Jazelle Perez had eight and Morgan Apple (2 blocks) had five. Karmyn Brough had a team-high 34 assists and Jaelynn Siefer came up with 14 digs. Brough and Alyssa Campbell both had four ace serves and Siefer had three. Leipsic, ranked No. 2 among Ohio's Division VII teams, improved to 13-0 overall, and at 5-0 in the BVC appears headed for a Sept. 30 showdown with Liberty-Benton (9-3, 4-0 BVC) with the league title likely on the line for that matchup. Olivia Secord (15-18 spiking) led Vanlue with three kills and 10 digs. Candace Saltzman (11-13 spiking) had six digs and Adrienne Phillips (18-18 setting) had two assists and two digs. P-GILBOA &emsp;&emsp;3 VAN BUREN 1 VAN BUREN – Pandora-Gilboa rolled in the first two sets but had to beat back a Van Buren rally after that in outlasting the Black Knights 25-15, 25-11, 24-26, 25-22 in BVC volleyball action. P-G's Corrin Luginbill pounded 24 kills, Nevaeha Alvarado had 17 and Laira Parkins added seven. Peyton Diller led all players with 52 assists. Ava Huffman (2 aces) had 26 digs, Diller had 16 and Miley Russell had eight as Pandora-Gilboa (9-4, 4-1 BVC) stayed a game back of Leipsic and Liberty-Benton in the BVC standings. Brooklyn Wilkin (2 blocks, 2 aces) had 17 kills and Selma Brant added 15 kills and 12 digs for Van Buren (9-3, 2-3 BVC). Lydia Ponn led the Knights with 28 assists and Paige Ryan had seven. L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;3 MCCOMB &emsp;&emsp;1 FINDLAY – Liberty-Benton lost the first set, but regrouped and rebounded to get past McComb 19-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-16 in a BVC volleyball match. L-B's Lindsay May had 18 kills, 17 digs and five aces. Corra Dehart (2 blocks) added 11 kills, Ally Hocanson had nine and Emily Eyink (2 blocks) six. Maddy Amstutz had a team-high 30 digs. Josie Todd handed out 40 assists and came up with 12 digs as Liberty-Benton (9-3, 4-0 BVC) won its eighth straight match, ran its BVC winning streak to 73 in a row and remained tied with Leipsic atop the league standings. Kacey Like led McComb (7-5, 3-2 BVC) with 12 kills and 12 digs. Addie Krassow (3 blocks) added five kills, Morgan Kern (6 digs) had four and Peyton Stateler (2 blocks) had three. Kelsey Jenkins had a team-high 17 digs and Shelby Hassan led the Panthers with 17 assists. ARLINGTON 3 ADA &emsp;&emsp;2 ADA – Arlington went the distance and then some on Wednesday in earning a marathon 25-27, 25-16, 25-20, 24-26, 15-8 BVC volleyball win over Ada. Up front, Alyssa Launder and Summer Proud led Arlington with 17 kills each and Gabby Schutz (3 blocks) had 13. Launder also had six service aces. Mea Alexander's 43 assists set the tabled for the Red Devils, who are 12-3 overall, 4-1 in the BVC and a game back of first place in the league standings. Ada dipped to 5-6 overall, 1-4 in the BVC. Dailah Preston led Ada with 13 kills and three blocks. Alivia Gibson added 10 kills, Brook Andreasen (3 blocks) had eight and Tess Griffith six. Jaylin St. Laurent had 35 assists and 17 digs. RIVERDALE 3 ARCADIA &emsp;&emsp;0 ARCADIA – Shayla Newfer smacked 11 kills and Addie Farmer had nine in Riverdale's 25-21, 27-25, 25-16 BVC win over Arcadia. Paige Courtad (5 kills, 5 digs) was 54-of-57 setting with 14 assists and Farmer (3 blocks) was 37-of-38 setting with 12 assists. Carly Karcher had four kills and Kasey Luikart had three. Dylann Thacker and Regan Boutwell both had four digs in helping the Falcons (5-9, 1-3 BVC) earn their first BVC win. Kate Keefe was 18-of-19 spiking with seven kills and had 22 digs for Arcadia (2-11, 1-4 BVC). Maddie George (21-21 spiking) added five kills and Ryleigh Bostic (21-26 spiking) and Ellie Moes (16-19 spiking) had three each. Ivy Smith was 96-of-103 setting with 20 assists. GIRLS SOCCER RIVERDALE 6 VAN BUREN 0 VAN BUREN – Marissa Bonham scored two goals and Brooke Durenberger scored one and assisted on three others in Riverdale's 6-0 North Central Ohio Soccer Association win over Van Buren. Allison Woodruff had a goal and an assist for Riverdale (8-2-0). Shae Berger and Bristel Cramner had the other goals and Ryleigh Howard made two saves to earn the shutout in goal. (14-sub head) Granger named TOLEDO – Liberty-Benton graduate Izzy Granger, a junior outside hitter with the University of Toledo volleyball team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Granger earned MVP honors at the Rocket Invitational when she had 41 kills, 35 digs and five ace serves against Northern Kentucky and Marshall. Granger carries a 3.981 GPA as an early childhood education major and ranks second on the team in kills per set (2.67) and digs per set (2.33).
