Name the signs In the 9/21 edition of The Courier, we were educated on the correct placement of political signs: where to place them, where not to place them, and what rights the city retains should placement be incorrectly made in the right of way ("Signs of the Times"). All very good information. What I found particularly interesting was the comment that there had been "regular complaints" received by the police department regarding the "disappear(ance)" of those political signs. We were one of those "complaints." As Pete Sehnert noted in his letter to the editor, also published in the 9/21 paper, there were a number of signs stolen. Note that Mr. Sehnert used the proper term here: stolen. Our sign didn't just "disappear." Someone, with intent, entered our property and stole our sign. When my husband reported the theft, the responding officer asked what specific sign it was. And my husband responded: a Harris-Walz sign. So the sign was identified as a Democratic political sign. Imagine our surprise when (1) we saw there were seven other entries in the daily docket for the last weekend of reports of theft of political signs and (2) the type of sign was not identified. Instead, they were identified as some generic political sign, which we all know does not even exist. We put signs in OUR yard to express OUR support of the candidates who closely align with OUR political beliefs. Just as the couple across the street from us have placed signs in THEIR yard that align with THEIR political beliefs. Were their signs touched during the thefts of last weekend? No they were not. Nor were other Trump signs scattered throughout the neighborhood. I can speak with 100% accuracy that our signs and the signs listed on Greenlawn, Glendale and Washington Avenue were, in fact, also Democratic signs. So maybe the "Signs of the Times" article would have been more informative had it identified the nature of the political signs that have mysteriously "disappeared."
