Our political situation I am saddened by our current political situation. Are we concerned about the USA and the welfare of its citizens? Have we lost sight of what it means to be a country, united and standing tall? Somehow, bipartisan has been lost in the fistfights of the day. Is it really more important to be a Republican or Democrat than who will best serve the country? The character (reputation, moral excellence) of the candidates matter. We cannot allow "moral and ethical politicians" to be turned into an oxymoron. When I listen to a politician, I want to know what that candidate will do. How will their policies and proposals improve the current situation? I don't want to hear how awful their opponents are. That is especially true when lies, half-truths, and name calling are employed. Voters are smart enough to figure it out. I am annoyed by politicians using terms like "middle class" and "fair share." They never define them. Why? Because most people think of themselves as middle class, when in fact they are not. Because most people think they are doing their fair share or maybe even a little more. Politicians knowingly use these psychological misconceptions to further their own agenda. Social media is guilty of many of these tactics under the guise of free speech. It is a form of the Wild West allowing lies, half-truths, and misleading statements to be published. Considering the impact on the general public, reform is badly needed. We are a nation under God. Remember the 9th Commandment: "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." When we vote, we are choosing the path forward. It is the duty of every citizen to vote. Those votes are counted under previously determined procedures. Democracy says we then peacefully unite behind that chosen path.
