BVC volleyball teams wrapping up league play

MCCOMB &emsp;&emsp;3 ARLINGTON 0 ARLINGTON – McComb's Claire Bryan and Shelby Hassan were a combined 111-of-117 setting with 38 assists and 12 digs on Wednesday when the Panthers knocked off Arlington 25-22, 25-19, 25-17 in BVC volleyball action. Bryan was 57-of-59 setting with five digs and Hassan was 54-of-58 setting with seven digs. Both had 19 assists. Morgan Kern had 10 digs and led McComb (11-7, 5-3 BVC) with 12 kills. Kacey Like had 11 kills and 16 digs and Addie Krassow nine kills and two blocks. Kelsey Jenkins had a team-high 20 digs. Gabby Schutz led Arlington at the net with 11 kills and five blocks. Mea Alexander led the Red Devils (14-6, 5-3 BVC) with 25 assists. L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;3 VAN BUREN 1 FINDLAY – Liberty-Benton rallied from a first-set setback to outlast Van Buren 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-14 in BVC volleyball action. Lindsay May led L-B with 19 kills, Emily Eyink (3 blocks) had 13, Corra Dehart (3 blocks) nine and Ally Hocanson seven. Josie Todd had 43 assists and Maddy Amstutz had 30 digs as L-B (13-6, 7-1 BVC) remained tied with Pandora-Gilboa for second place behind Leipsic in the BVC standings. May and Todd both had 14 digs, and Ellie Norman had 10. Brooklyn Wilkin had 18 kills and Selma Brant had 17 kills and 19 digs for Van Buren (14-5, 4-4 BVC). Megan Stall added five kills and Paige Ryan had four. Lydia Ponn led the Black Knights with 26 assists and Ryan had 14. Bailey Lance (21) and Lily Grine (11) topped Van Buren in digs. JUNIOR VARSITY: Liberty-Benton 25-8, 25-14. P-GILBOA &emsp;&emsp;3 VANLUE &emsp;&emsp;0 PANDORA – Corrin Luginbill (4 aces) smashed 17 kills and Nevaeha Alvarado had 10 in powering Pandora-Gilboa to a quick 25-4, 25-7, 25-6 BVC volleyball win over Vanlue. Peyton Diller had 37 assists and four ace serves. Ava Huffman led the Rockets, 13-5 overall and 7-1 in BVC matches, with 17 digs, Miley Russell had nine and Luci Hovest seven. Vanlue's Olivia Secord was 22-of-23 spiking with eight kills and added eight digs. Candace Saltzman (13-13 spiking) had two kills and 10 digs for the Wildcats (7-11, 0-9 BVC), while Alison Brooks (6 assists, 4 digs) was 31-of-31 setting and Adrienne Phillips (5 assists, 5 digs) was 30-of-32. JUNIOR VARSITY: Pandora-Gilboa 25-16, 25-7. RIVERDALE 3 ELMWOOD &emsp;&emsp;0 BLOOMDALE – Riverdale topped Elmwood 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 in a BVC volleyball contest. Addi Farmer had six kills, three aces, four digs and was 42-for-42 setting with nine assists. Shayla Newfer (4 aces) had five kills and Dylann Thacker (7 total blocks) and Carly Karcher added four kills each. Paige Courtad was 35-for-35 setting with eight assists, while Regan Boutwell led the Falcons (8-11, 4-3 BVC) with 13 digs. ADA &emsp;&emsp;3 ARCADIA &emsp;&emsp;1 ADA – Ada's Jenna Bassitt achieved a career milestone for the second straight match in the Bulldogs 19-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-14 BVC win over Arcadia. Bassitt, who got her 1000th career dig against Riverdale on Monday, had 10 digs in Wednesday's match. That upped her career total to 1,015, a school record. Anna Conley had 12 kills against Arcadia, Dailah Preston (2 blocks) had 10, Brooklyn Andreasen (3 blocks) eight, Tess Griffith (16 digs) six and Alainee Buxton (5 digs, 3 aces) five. Jaylin St. Laurent had 13 digs and a team-high 36 assists for the Bulldogs (10-10, 4-5 BVC). Arcadia's Kate Keefe was 19-for-19 serving with two aces, 27-for-31 spiking with seven kills and had a team-leading 17 digs. Ryleigh Bostic (20-26 spiking) had seven kills, Jade Johnson (32-37 spiking, 10 digs) had six and Ellie Moes five. Elyse Boes had 10 digs, Alexis Theis eight and Maddie George (3 kills) five. Ivy Smith was 105-of-113 setting with 22 assists and 15 digs for the Redskins (3-17, 1-7 BVC). JUNIOR VARSITY: Arcadia, 25-22, 25-20. GIRLS GOLF DIVISION I DISTRICT BOWLING GREEN – Three Toledo St. Ursula golfers shot 78 or better and the Arrows blew away the field on Wednesday in the Division I girls district golf tournament held at Stone Ridge Golf Club. St. Ursula's 317 team total was 37 strokes better than the 354 of runner-up Lexington. The top two teams and top two individuals from non-qualifying teams – Ashland's Elleni Miller and Norwalk's Kilee Duncan – advance to next week's Division I state tournament at the NCR Country Club in Dayton. Findlay placed eighth among the 10 schools that fielded full teams. Ava Metz led the Trojans with a 91 and Josey Weihrauch carded a 95. Lainey Ricker (104) and Claire White (106) completed Findlay's 396 total, with Abigail Kasselmann (112) rounding out the Trojans' district lineup. Qualifying for the 2024 state golf tournaments continues today with Division II (Maumee Bay Golf Club) and Division III (Stone Ridge) boys competition. Findlay will take part in the Division I boys district Friday at the Shawnee Country Club in Lima. GIRLS SOCCER L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;1 RIVERDALE 1 MOUNT BLANCHARD – In a match with the North Central Ohio Soccer Association championship on the line, Liberty-Benton and Riverdale battled to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday and ended up sharing the 2024 title. Marissa Bonham scored Riverdale's goal on an assist by Kennedy Phelps. Kylie Modd scored the equalizer for Liberty-Benton. Liberty-Benton had more total shots (15-5), but shots on goal were even at 5-5. Riverdale's Ryleigh Howard and L-B's Rylie Grant both had four saves. The outcome left Liberty-Benton with a 7-4-3 record, while Riverdale moved to 9-2-2. Both teams finished 4-0-1 in league games. PRERRYBURG 8 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;0 FINDLAY – Perryburg nearly duplicated its earlier girls soccer match with Findlay, beating the Trojans 8-0 on Wednesday in a Northern Lakes League contest at Elmer Graham Stadium. Perrysburg had topped the Trojans 7-0 in a Sept. 9 NLL game in Perrysburg. Perrysburg improved its record to 10-3-12 overall and 7-1-0 in NLL games. Findlay dropped to 4-9-0, 2-5-0 in the NLL. BOYS SOCCER ADA &emsp;&emsp;13 C-RAWSON 0 RAWSON – Ada scored early and often in rolling to a 13-0 boys soccer win over Cory-Rawson.
