Findlay, Dotson fifth at Lima Shawnee district

LIMA – Findlay's Payson Dotson was fifth in the medalist standings and the Trojans were fifth in the team standings as well at the Division I boys district golf tournament held Friday at the Shawnee Country Club in Lima.Dotson, a senior, fired a 40-36—76 to top the Trojans. Seniors Sam Swisher and Owen Metz carded rounds of 81 and 89, respectively. Junior Jamie Tate had an 84 for Findlay's 330 team total.With only the top team and one individual from a non-qualifying team advancing to next week's Division I state tournament in Dayton, competition was intense. Toledo St. Francis earned the team spot, posting a 304 score to nip defending Division I state champion Anthony Wayne (305) by a single stroke. Sylvania Northview was third (314), followed by Toledo St. John's (328), Findlay (330), Lexington (335), Tiffin Columbian (341), Perrysburg (342), Ashland (348), and Lima Shawnee (352).The bid to advance as an individual was down-to-the-wire as well, with two Anthony Wayne golfers leading the charge. Michael Distefano fired an even-par 72 to edge teammate Ted Robertson (73) by one stroke. Sylvania Northview teammates Evan Maki and Bode Briggs were right behind with 74s.
