Amstutz sets digs mark, L-B stops Lexington

VOLLEYBALL MOUNT BLANCHARD – Liberty-Benton's Maddy Amstutz collected 31 digs Tuesday in the Division IV semifinal with Lexington at Riverdale High School. That gave her 492 this season, which is a school record. She wasn't the only Liberty-Benton player to record eye-popping numbers Tuesday, and the Eagles moved on. Corra Dehart and Emily Eyink slammed 17 kills each, and Liberty-Benton eliminated Lexington in four games, 25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 25-18. For the Eagles, Josie Todd dished out 46 assists, while Lindsay May added nine kills and 19 digs. Megan Gerken recorded seven kills. The Eagles improved to 16-8, and will play in the district final at 6 p.m. Thursday against top seeded Shelby. BOYS SOCCER VAN BUREN 1 MVCD 0 HOLLAND – Aedan Riesen connected on the only goal in Tuesday's district semifinal in Holland, and Van Buren advanced by edging Maumee Valley Country Day, 1-0. The Black Knights (17-1-1) will face the district's top seed, Ottoville, in the Division V final at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holland. The Green Bears advanced to the district finals in the first game at Holland Tuesday, defeating Archbold, 3-1. MANS. CHRISTIAN 2BLUFFTON 0TIFFIN – Bluffton outshot Mansfield Christian, but the Flames were more efficient in posting a 2-0 win over the Pirates in a Division V boys district soccer semifinal at Tiffin's Frost-Kalnow Stadium.Mansfield Christian scored on two of its three shots on goal. Bluffton had 13 total shots, six of them on goal. Bluffton keeper Truett Diller made one save for Bluffton, which bows out of the post season tournament with a 10-9-0 record for the 2024 season.Mansfield Christian, seeded No. 4 among the nine schools in the Tiffin District, advances to Saturday's 6 p.m. district final where the Fames (9-9-1) will face Riverdale (10-7-2) for the district title and a spot in the Division V regional semifinals to be played Oct. 30 in Clyde.
