Officer shot at; returns fire

UPDATE 4 p.m., 10/29: Findlay police released another press statement about 4 p.m. Tuesday, saying the following: "We are aware of the comments, assumptions and misinformation on social media and we will be releasing information as it becomes available. We are working closely with the Hancock County Prosecutor's Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation on releasing redacted information in the near future regarding Axon Body Worn Camera footage." Police also stated they recovered a handgun at the scene in the 4 p.m. press release. UPDATE 12 p.m., 10/29: Findlay Police Department released an updated press release about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday stating the juvenile suspect shot Monday night has been pronounced dead. Neither the name of the suspect nor the officer involved in the pursuit had been released by police as of noon Tuesday. FINDLAY — A fleeing suspect shooting at a pursuing police officer was shot Monday evening at Bernard Park. The male suspect was taken from the park by ambulance to Blanchard Valley Hospital and later to a Toledo hospital where he was listed in "critical, but stable condition," according to a Findlay police news release. Officers were dispatched at about 6:30 p.m. The caller said there were three juveniles drinking at the park. They located the juveniles and began questioning them when one suspect fled on foot. An officer was pursuing the suspect when the suspect discharged a weapon at him, according to the news release. The officer returned fire and struck the suspect.
